Maestra Jeanne Thompson

Jeanne Thompson, 82, a long-term resident of Lancaster, died on Thursday, July
27, 2006 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late John Hutchinson and
Jessie H. (Mackey) Thompson, formerly of Wernersville, Pa. She was also
predeceased by two brothers, John H. Thompson, Jr. and Wilson M. Thompson, and
is survived by several cousins.

Jeanne graduated from Wernersville Boro Schools and earned a Bachelors Degree
from Penn State University. She worked as an Assistant Public Relations
Director at Lake Erie College for Women.

Later, she was a professional photographer and owned her own home photography
business, "Jeanne Thompson Photography," located in Lancaster County.

Jeanne traveled widely and spoke several languages, including Russian. Jeanne
was an avid skier until a debilitating ailment struck her in 1981, reducing her
activity.

Maestra Jeanne Thompson fenced all of her life and trained in Europe. She
participated in many national and international competitions in the United
States, France, Italy and Hungary. A member of the United States Fencing
Association, Maestra Thompson was an Olympic level fencing teacher, and
proprietor and founder of the "Salle Jeanne," a private fencing school based in
Lancaster. She also founded the Fencing Club of Lancaster, which is a
non-profit club open to the public. Until her death, Jeanne continued as a
salaried fencing coach for the Millersville University Fencing Guild.

A private graveside service will be held at Hains Church Cemetery in
Wernersville, Pa. at a later date. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home,
Lancaster, Pa.
