On January 28, I went to the Chesapeake Fencing Club. I'll
just start out saying that I did bad, losing every bout. I did,
however, have a good time. It was a large competition with 56 people
attending. With that many people they decided to split into eight
pools of seven. They did four pools at a time, two in the CFC club
and two the Boy's Tri-Weapon club that was next door. I was in the
second round because I needed to borrow a lame from another club
member because of complicated circumstances. I helped do timing on
one of the strips. When it came my time to fence, I was at least
hoping for my equipment to work well. It did, I didn't. If you've
ever fenced electric foil then you know that sometimes when you think
you have a touch there is nothing and when you think that you weren't
hit you were. That happened a number of times. I'm not ashamed of
saying that there were a lot of very good fencers there that were
better than me. As a matter of fact there were some younger fencers
(my guess is about 8-10) that were very good. Since I lost all my
bouts I didn't have to worry about going on. One of my friends that
we gave a ride down did as well as I did so we left around 6:30. The
competition started at around 1:30. The officials knocked out the
bottom twelve fencers. I don't know if the bouts for the last 44
fencers were done in the 15 minute, 15 touch format but if it was
then there weren't many people eating a big supper by my guess.
P.S. Please don't scream "yes" or "touch" whenever you get a hit.
It is quite annoying.
