First, don't forget the Choco Therapy, coming up Sunday, February 12th. As
usual, check-in for foil will close at 10 a.m., and check-in for epee will
close at 1;30 p.m. We will be offering medals to the top eight in each weapon,
as
well as special "therapeutic" awards to the top male and female fencers in
each weapon.
In other news, The Baltimore Fencing Center's Men's and Women's Foil and
Epee teams made it a clean sweep in the 2006 Summer Nationals qualifiers on the
weekend of January 21-22, 2006, as they brought home the gold in all four
events in which BFC entered teams.
In the women's foil on Saturday, the team of Joan Stiles, Marie Lawson, and
Luisa Hernandez defeated Slayton, their sole foe, 45-16. The BFC men's "B"
team (Eric Smith, Pauley Cordial, Steve Gross, and Bruce Milligan) narrow
defeated the "A" team (Jon Brundage, John Parrott, and Danny Schiff) 45-43, as
the two squads recorded a 1-2 finish in a field which includes teams from the
Fencing Institute of America (Baltimore), the Tri-Weapon Boys Club, and two
teams from Slayton.
On Sunday, BFC's dominance continued, as once again, the seemingly misnamed
"B" team upended the "A" team by two touches, as the two BFC squads once
again finished first and second, defeating teams from the Tri-Weapon Boys Club
and the Fencing Institute of America.
Fencing for the "B" team were Chris Amberger, Noah Weiner, Zack Schoettler,
and Kip Hart. The "A" team included Alan Arrowsmith, Wesley and Jake Weicht,
and Andrew Anderson.
The BFC women's epee team of Laura Verne, Lauren Clark, and Sarah
Schoettler also triumphed, placing first while defeating Slayton's "A" team
45-32,
and Slayton's "B" team 45-19.
The Baltimore Fencing Center has now qualified teams in all four events for
the Summer National Championships. In 2005, the BFC men's foil team placed
ninth in a field of 28 teams.
