On January 15th, I went to the Philadelphia Academy of Fencing
for a novice competition. There where eight fencers including me and
the format was a large round robin. It was my first USFA competition
though I have fenced in the Rob Roy at the Renaissance Faire and a foil
competition in York. I was happy that there was a good director but I
think I was one of the few fencers that were used to judging dry foil.
I saw some good footwork and blade work from some of the fencers though
some were downright horrible. It is however easier to beat a good
fencer that has good blade work because you can guess what they will
do. I didn't do well and came in 7th but I hope to do better next time.
