I wish this announcement could go out under happier circumstances, but the
events of the last week have been truly horrifying and tragic. With the
drama
unfolding in New Orleans, I hope that people can find some way to donate
to the
various relief efforts currently under way. Likewise, I hope that
anyone who
has family in that area has heard from them, and that everyone is safe and
okay. It is truly sobering to watch the ongoing rescue and relief
efforts. My
and the rest of the Division's hopes and best wishes go out to those
affected
by this tragedy.

The Maryland Division has completed its schedule for the Fall/Winter
season.
It won't go up until later this weekend (I'll be gone for the next couple of
days), but I will announce the events for the month of September so that
people
can make those on their calendar. Of special note is that fencing has
returned
to Johns Hopkins University, and the team has graciously agreed to resume
hosting events there.

09/10/05 -- Mixed Epee "C" @ JHU (11:00am)
09/11/05 -- Mixed Foil "C" @ JHU (11:00am)
09/24/05 -- Mixed Team Foil @ FIA (9:00am)
09/24/05 -- Mixed Team Sabre @ FIA (11:00am)
09/24/05 -- Mixed Team Epee @ FIA (1:00pm)
09/25/05 -- Mixed 3-Weapon Team @ SP (1:30pm)

FIA = Fencing Institute of America
JHU = John's Hopkins University Fencing Room
SP = Salle Palasz (which is NOT at Johns Hopkins)


The listed times are for the close of registration, so please arrive
prior to
this in order to facilitate the timely start of fencing. The entry fee for
events is $10 per individual ($30 for teams). The letter code (i.e., "E")
denotes the highest rating a fencer can have and still participate (i.e.,
fencers with "C", "D" or "E" ratings, as well as unclassified fencers, can
participate in a Mixed Foil "C"). A "U" indicates an event is only open to
unclassified fencers. The Team Events are Open to fencers of all ratings.
