"Z",
Wow! A huge turnout for the RRToD. Congratulations Lebby and the PA
Ren. Fair for another job well done. And Congratulations to the winner
Mr. Gross and Folgner now two time winner of the Fencing Spirit of
Sportsmanship award.
I ran myself ragged directing and scoring this fast paced one-touch
format, for my own pool. I hope I didn't make and mistakes. Hope, as
if it seems to make any difference, once the final DE starts; all bets
are off. Again I seeded first and again was knocked out in my first
bout. Maybe I will learn something about Epee and be less aggressive
next year. Some face is saved, fortunately I was defeated in an
honorable fashion because I was fencing Folgner at the time. He kept
me contained while retreating while I was pressing, but he stayed
close. When the distance seemed like it was impossible for me to miss,
I conceived of an attack, but Folgner read my intentions (because he
was drawing me in the whole time) and started getting a point out. By
the time I saw the counter attack I tried to break off the attack and
parry but, too little to late, he was closing and broke through my
attempt to fend off the blade. I became stationary just in time for
him to land on the top of my fore arm. It's over! Just like that.
Also congratulations to Rob for his first competition (it was a
scorcher out there too). He racked up Three wins in the pool rounds
and One in the DE for a ratio of 4:9, almost 50% if I am close on the
results. Keep an eye out for the after action report from Rob.
Cheers!
