I was in the U foil competition on Saturday, held at Strath-Haven
Middle School, near Media, PA- A total of 15 fencers, in three pools
of five. The first place winner would be awarded a D rating, and
places 2nd thru 4th would get an E rating.

I did well in the pool competition, going 4 wins- 0 losses. The
scores were three bouts of 5-3, and one bout of 5-0. After the pool,
I was seeded 3rd. My first DE was against the 14th seeded fencer.
He was more of a challenge than I expected for being seeded 14th. I
won 15-6. My second DE was against a fencer from New Jersey about my
size and age. I got off to a slow start, so it was a battle to catch
up. I narrowed his lead to 13-10, but he took the next two touches,
beating me 15-10 in the second period.
