Re:Choco-Therapy Open after action report
MUFG, Z, SJ,
The Choco-Therapy was quite an event. Besides a table of free
chocolates, there were about seventy fencers from clubs in Pa,
Maryland, NJ and VA. There were thirty-three entries in the Foil
event: with one A class, five B, seven C and the rest various D, E and
a few Unclassified fencers. The format was one round of pool bouts
seeding a direct elimination table of 32.
I was in a pool of six with Milligan, the A and five other fencers D
and under. My rating is C. The make-up of the pools is designed to
resemble the distribution of ratings in the initial roster. My only
loss in the pool was to Milligan making my record 4-1, with 1-5, 5-0,
5-2, 5-2, 5-4, indicator +8, my seeding into the file was number 8.
Again Milligan was in my bracket. I won my first DE 15-3 against
number 25, but was edged out in the second round by number 9 14-15. He
was a fencer from the Navel Academy. Those cadets are really in good
shape. I think I need to do some more push-ups.
This is the biggest competition that I have been to for quite a while.
Getting another shot at Milligan would have been nice. But I went out
to shake off the cobwebs, and that is what I felt like. I did give
Milligan a stiff bout even though I only scored one touch. I was using
good distance and felt like I was hitting top speed with my attacks.
To bad I can not summon that performance at will against all
opponents, just when I am heavily out-matched.
Thank you to all the people who drove down from Lancaster to see the
event and cheer me on. Metals were awarded to the top 8 finishers, I
came in 9th. Watch for more MD division and BFC events in the future.
Cheers!
