Not too much to explain. My roommate (Jimmy, Foil) and I were the
only people from the team to compete. We started the U20 MF first,
of which there were 12 of us. Jimmy got beat by a few people in the
pools he shouldn't have, but ended up grabbing a spot in the semi-
finals. My only loss in the pools was to him, 5-3. I seeded 3rd,
Jimmy seeded 6th, but we placed in different brackets.
Since we were on new timings, I would do one thing and one thing
only: Counter attack deep when I saw them accelerate with the pre-
march. It would get me the touch first, and by the time they could
finish their attack, I would drop my body and remove my target area
from their direct attack. At that point, the lockout time was over,
and they couldn't in-fight.
I took the gold in the foil event, but I was too tired and hungry to
do much in the epee. There were 12 of us in the epee as well, and I
went undefeated in the pool rounds, seeding 1st. I got to the
finals and lost by one touch, 14-15, to a guy I beat 5-3 in the
pools.
Gold and silver in one day for a metropolis fencing division isn't
too bad. I still got the "you still suck" lecture from my coach on
the drive home.
Finals tomorrow.
