We had a small competition to emulate the feel of real stress in a
bout. Eight of the epee guys showed up, of which were mostly the
really good fencers. We had two pools of four chosen randomly. I
had Tolkachev (our #1 guy) and Rivera (our #2 guy) in my pool, plus
a women's epee fencer who will be joining us in the winter. I lost
the first two bouts to the guys 3-5 and 2-5, then I won my last bout
5-1. This gave me a paultry 1:2 and seeded me 6th out of 8.
Fortunately, I faced a senior who I am relatively even with in terms
of skill in my first DE bout. I wasn't feeling on fire, but I won
the bout 15-10. I then faced Tolkachev in the semi's, and lost 15-
7. He just got back from two World Cups in Europe. Tolkachev ended
up winning the tournament, and I got the bronze. Not a bad day for
OSU's starting line-up.
Report of the Columbus division's Junior Olympic qualifiers coming
soon. I'm going for Junior Men's Epee and Foil.
