I traveled to Annapolis, Maryland today to compete in the U foil at
St. Johns College. A total of 30 fencers, with 5 pools of 6.
Everybody up to the DE. One of my losses was 4-5, which is
frustrating. Won only 1 of my 5 bouts in the pool, but won my first
DE, by a score of 15-13. Second DE was frustrating, because the
director called advancing with a bent arm (tip away from the body) as
an attack, and my attack as a counter-attack. If I tried to retreat
until my opponent pointed it toward my target, my reposte was called
taking of the blade by my opponent. So I got clobbered in the 2nd DE-
I finished in the middle of the pack. A little frustrating, but still
a good learning experience.
