U Foil at Baltimore Fencing Club: a total of 26 fencers, with pools
of
6 or 7. Everybody moves to DE after pool competition. I was in a
pool of 7. Went 3-3 in the pool, but it was discovered after the
pool, that one of the fencers in my pool already had an E rating.
Depending on whether these bouts were counted as forfeits, or thrown
out altogether, I was either 4-2 or 3-2. I had lost to this lefty.
I won my first DE (15-8)against a young fencer I had beaten 5-0 in
the
pool. My second DE was against a woman about my age who had beaten me
in pool competition; I had beaten her about a year ago at Bucks
County. I took the first 4 touches, but then she took the next 7 or
8.
I lost 14-15. I probably finished 9th in the field of 26 (reduced
to
25 after the E fencer was disqualified).
Eric finished third (tied) and earned his E rating. He had equipment
problems, so he continued with my foil and body cord- my equipment
did
better than I did! Way to go, Eric!
