Something very interesting last night. . . Grace decided that I was not allowed on her right side. So, obviously I'll need to begin the repair work on her left before even attempting to fill in the holes with her right. I think one of the things that you had said about her being frozen and not leaving rather than displaying friendly behaviors was probably what was happening. It LOOKED as though she was not bothered by my approach, but in fact it was waaaaay too much for her and she is so used to locking her fear up that she remained in her "looked like calm/friendly but was wary" position. In effect, I was already way over her threshold by starting on her right side. Thinking back, for a very long time, the only place on Grace that she and I could connect was on her forehead. I simply had her target my hand and she was okay. We had some very profound moments through this connection.
Back to the drawing board. I'll make the next trial on her left side unless you have another suggestion and see how it goes.
