Re: [youthrowing] Wintech 16' wakeless vs. Still Water 18' Solo

Sorry for the late reply. We have a Wintech and an older 18 Solo.  When comparing the two, both with 9.9 HP engines:

Wintech: more maneuverable, more port/starboard stable in rough water, more wake, shorter on a trailer
Niceties: cupholder, rear flagpole and railing, enclosed gas tank compartment (mandates a fire extinguisher)

Stillwater: less wake, slightly faster, easier to work with shells on the water
NIceties: seats 2 across rather than fore/aft, deeper storage area under front windscreen

Other data:
I can "dock" a double on the Stillwater's foredeck, which is long enough to make shell adjustments and rower-swapping relatively easy.
I recommend 4-stroke engine and an electric start.  Worth the extra $ if some coaches aren't engine-savvy..

Thanks for the info. We row in the Potomac River in Washington, DC. I like the wintech 16'. Our club is looking for additional launches and wants to look at all the options. I'm not sure the Still Water will do well with the water conditions we get on the Potomac. We get just about every condition. Thanks again.

Derek,

We have the Solo 18s in Tempe and they work really well.  The only issue we have had is that they don't handle all that well in reverse.  As with any catamaran, they don't turn on a dime.  They do sit higher above the water than the WinTech and have more of a "cockpit" feel as opposed to the WinTech where you are sitting on a deck with no real sides to speak of.  We have 9.9 and a 15 horsepower motor and they both work great with the Solo 18. - dan

Does anyone have any info they could share on the Still Water 18' Solo? We currently have one Wintech 16' Wakeless and really like it. We are going to move to purchase additional wakeless launches but wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with any other brands. The larger style wakeless are not an option for boathouse.
