Re: [youthrowing] Boathouse design plans, thoughts and ideas

Our "boathouse" is currently a fenced-in area, 22' x 80' with wooden (pressure
treated) racks cemented into the ground. We are currently trying to get
permission from the Park District to cover it with a steel open-carport from
American Steel; http://www.americansteelinc.com/open1a.htm

At about $8500 the price is right and they put it up. Optionally the sides can
be enclosed. We're going to put privacy-strips in our chain link fence to close
off the sides.

[youthrowing] Boathouse design plans, thoughts and ideas

All,

I am interested in knowing who has plans out thee for a boathouse. We
are looking to build a simple structure, possibly large, but simple that
meets our needs. We are thinking along the lines of a basic barn or
airport hangar type design which accommodates the most team equipment
(boats, oars, ergs, etc) for the buck. It seems many teams have built
boathouses over the last 10-20 years (some very ornate and some very
simple) and one would think it would be easier to find tools and
guidance on them. This has always been an area I wish USRA would put
more emphasis on (team building overall). Any thoughts on things that
you wish you had done differently (if you were involved in a building
project or are using a facility that was recently built) or things that
worked well is appreciated. This could include building plans, hints
about space usage, any RFP's put together, fundraising strategies or
marketing campaigns, etc.

Regards and thanks up front for any help. I've always loved rowing
especially for the volunteer and generous community of people that are
involved in the sport and hope this forum is a way to reach out into
that group of people.
