New Youth Rowing member: Hello! Let's talk...   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #255 of 427 |
Hi folks,

Jim Cooper here: Norwalk River Rowing Association up in CT.

I just joined the list, but the message window on the Yahoo website says there has only been 9 messages since August. Yikes!

I think Youth Rowing  in the US has more activity than that.... <grin>

I coach Novice boys specifically and all ages generally. We’re indoors now (of course), but we’ll be on the water in March. Really looking forward to the Spring. Been active as a Junior coach since 1996.

How about a shout out: Who are you, who do you coach, *what* do you like about it?

Me? I love the incredible improvements that novices make. HUGE strides. I also like how the Type ‘B’ personalities really soar.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and words,

Coop

It may be an equipment issue. It is a whole lot easier for me to get 8 rowers on the river in one boat, than it is to get 8 rowers on the river each in...

We are considering taking one of our older/heavier/gently used 8's and rigging them for octupals (sp?). I believe some middle school programs are doing this. ...

I agree with you. I think physically it is inappropriate for such young rowers to over train one side of their bodies and sculling certainly avoids that. ...

I agree with the spirit. It's the reality that will be hard if not impossible to implement. I've been slowly implementing sculling into our youth programs...
