Re: [youthrowing] A question about youth standing

He will retain his youth or junior standing for some races and not for others.  That is usually an age category until they are 18.  Some races lump it together with high school standing but most don't.  In fact the Princeton Crew often wins the Youth category at the Head of the Charles much to the chagrin of the high school coaches.

Does he loose his "youth" standing because he has graduated or is
that determinded by where he goes to school? He is a single sculler
and if he has to race in open or even college-aged heats, he'll keep
getting his butt kicked for the next few years. If he rows club for
UC, does he loose all junior standings?

He's not a little guy by any means but he's not the biggest kid in
the boat, yet. He is not rowing with his high school club any more
and is training with a private coach at the moment. UC doesn't
start until late September. He wants to row his single in a bunch
of head races this fall. How should I enter him?

Oh! What is a mother to do?

Thanks for any input,

Hi Leila, it depends on the regatta. Most of the time, the rule is that you can not turn 19 in the calendar year of the regatta, unless you are still attending...
