RE: [youthrowing] A question of work / effort /attitude?

Charles,

I will pass this on to our area Coaches Association here in DC. I expect
you will receive many responses.

Subject: [youthrowing] A question of work / effort /attitude?

Hi Everyone,

Here is a situation that I do not know how to deal with.....I hope
you guys can offer some direction....

I have a group of 20 Juniors here in the Midwest. The river was
running too fast and we could not go out in boats. So we used the
Ergs. 5 x 500 meters to get the blood pumping. 20 Juniors in a
line. All the Guys were sweating and getting into it....most of the
girls were with the exception of 3. Who were not showing any signs
of sweat, effort, stress....

I asked them what the problem was, and they had no answer...they
just backed off the pressure as they started to feel uncomfortable,
hot or out of breath. They all knew they were 'busted'....but did
nothing to change it.

All three have rowed/ raced and are excellent rowers. I did not
persue the issue any further and decided to keep an eye on the
situation.....anyone have any ideas? ...solutions.. suggestions?

This is not an isolated incident, these three rowers rarely sweat
running, out in a boat or in a race.

thanks
Charles

I would question whether all 3 are really excellent "rowers" if they don't want to row hard. That's inconsistent with my definition of excellent rowers. Tell...

I agree completely with #1 and #3, but disagree with #2. I believe that you can help parents to understand your decisions and to understand the sport in ...

The problem with having "only" 3 rec rowers is that no competitive rower will want to race with them in a 4+/X. Our approach is to deal with the issue ...
