Years ago we used an inflatable - I think it was a 14 or 16 footer with
either a 9.9 or 15 horse on it - either would be sufficient.
It was fine for coaching - very stable and scooted along the river nicely.
You have to be careful when you try to transfer a kid into a boat or come
close to your crews because they tend to float a bit more. Also, unless
they have seats in them you have to sit on the inflated deck which can be
a bit awkward, but otherwise no problem. Better than running along the
shore.

We used to use inflatables, and I found they had too major drawbacks: 1). they leave quite a large wake, a problem on the Charles river. Once you got one up...
