Greetings!

Here we are in the 2nd half of March and finally the
Spring season is underway for our scholastic and
junior rowing programs with many of us having
entries in this weekend’s regattas. US JUNIOR
SCULLING has arrived on the rowing scene to be the
information source and advocate for this segment of
the rowing community. Please join with us to advance
the quality growth and support for Junior Scullers.

Our MISSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To promoting youth sculling through the development
and growth of community and scholastic based
programs by providing a central resource for
athletes, coaches, and parents that will unify the
effort to raise the quality of youth sculling in the
United States.

Our Role
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To provide:
- communication channels for information and
networking on the local and national levels for
coach and program leadership;

- forums to assist in the creating and managing of
junior level sculling programs; publicizing and
promoting competitive events; educating coaches,
athletes and others in the most current training
techniques; information on collegiate and financial
assistance for athletes; as well as, to sponsor
competitive events;

- serve as a source for organizational development
assistance and leadership training;

- promote and sponsor geographically diverse events;

- develop and maintain programs to identify and
train junior scullers for national and international
programs, consistent with the elite senior United
States National team development process.

JUNIOR and SCHOLASTIC SCULLING REGATTAS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Essential to all of our programs, is the
availability and accessibility of organized
competition programs. We have identified the
following Regattas as including sculling.

Please send us information immediately if you are
aware of Regattas not listed. A revised list will be
distributed.

THAT FUNNY SIXTEEN OAR SHELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Octuple. Rarely included in our Regattas are
events for the Octuple. A number of teams and clubs
use the Octuple for training but rarely have
competitive opportunities. This Spring, planned
Octuple events will be held at THE COOPER CUP and at
the MERCER/ISSA SPRINTS. If there are scheduled
Octuple events, please alert us immediately so that
this information will be publicized.

For further information on how to convert 8’s to an
Octuple through less expensive means, contact Tom
Curry at the NEW YORK ROWING ASSOCIATION,
tcurry@... . Tom has a vendor who produces
in spec equipment.

SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS

Many of our athletes are searching for information
on Summer Junior Sculling programs and camps. If you
are holding Clinics or Camps this Summer, please
send us details as this will be published with our
updated Regatta Calendar.

A REQUEST FOR INTERESTING TOPICS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are looking for topics that can be included in
future mailings and to be established boards. Your
input is necessary and requested. Also, please pass
this e-mail to those interested in Junior Sculling.
We would appreciate receiving their e-mail addresses
and program information so that they will be
included in future mailings.
