For those interested in representing their regions as Youth Directors in the
Youth Advisory
Board:
I had sent a one-page news update from the Youth Advisory Board and instructions
for
how to be nominated as a director to the POA magazine editor to include in the
October
magazine, but no one is getting their magazines and I heard that there wasn't
any YAB
stuff in the magazine from people who picked one up at the sale. Needless to say
that's
kind of a problem!
So I'm going to explain this by email, Facebook, and through the YouthPOA group
to reach
as many people as possible. Please pass this on to your friends if you think
they might be
interested in any of these leadership opportunities with the Youth Board.
NOMINATION PROCESS
1. There can be four directors from each region, with no more than two directors
per
state.
2. Directors must be in the 13-18 age group as of January 1, 2008.
3. Any youth can choose a 13-18 candidate from their region to nominate as a
director.
TO MAKE A NOMINATION
YOU MUST SEND YOUR NOMINATION BY NOVEMBER 1!
Send your nomination by EMAIL to poacyouth@... with "NOMINATION" as the
subject line. In the body of the email, include the name of the person you are
nominating
and their region. If possible, it would be helpful to me to also include the
nominee's state
and email address or other contact information.
ex: "I nominate Mike Michaels to serve as a Mideast regional director from
Ohio."
TO GET NOMINATED
Ask your friends to nominate you as the director. Tell them why you want to be
a Youth
Director and why you would make a good one. You can also nominate yourself to
count as
one nomination.
COUNTING
The nominations will be counted as votes, and the top four nominees from each
region
will be asked to confirm that they want to accept the position.
OFFICERS
If you are interested in the offices of President, Vice President, or Secretary,
you will have
the opportunity to express that interest. The new body of directors for 2008
will ultimately
decide its own officers.
WHO SHOULD BE A DIRECTOR?
If you are interested in organizing events at your regionals, helping to collect
ideas for
ways to make the Youth experience better, or being involved in suggesting
positive
changes in the POA organization, you should be a director. Directors are not
required to
attend, but are encouraged to attend and participate in the major Youth Board
meetings at
the Convention, International, and Sale.
WHO SHOULD BE AN OFFICER?
If you are willing to take the extra step and put in a lot of effort to pull
everything
together, you should consider an officer position. As President, Vice President,
or
Secretary, you will have a lot of specific jobs to carry out as defined by our
bylaws and
previous activities. For instance, each year for the next four years, sponsors
of the
International saddles will need to be sent invoices requesting that they pay for
the year.
The Youth Board is in charge of acquiring the high point saddles. The President
and Vice
President work closely with the Adult Advisor Michele Payne to get this done, as
well as
planning other fundraisers. The Secretary takes care of meeting notes and other
secretarial
work as well as helping the President and Vice President with major tasks.

Remember, NOVEMBER 1ST! If you are interested in this, start immediately to ask
you
friends to nominate you and send your own nomination for yourself immediately.
Please feel free to send an email to my personal email sh453@... or message
me on
facebook/myspace if you still have any questions!
NOVEMBER 1!!!
