RE: Your Dallas Mavericks Re: Pathetic D

Sarah,

I'm not jumping off the Mavs bandwagon here, but I fully agree with Chris.
It's like they're just going through the motions out there. Shotmaking and
many other aspects of the game - even rebounding to some extent - come and
go, due to luck, injury, talent, whatever. But two of the areas that are
(or should be) completely under the players' control are careless turnovers
and solid position defense. And those are the two aspects of their game
that are the most flagrantly out of whack. I have NO IDEA what is causing
this, but AJ better fix it fast, or the whole team will end up with the sort
of ho-hum attitude that makes so many highly talented teams (Denver,
Minnesota, and Houston come to mind) exit the playoffs early year after
year.

Chuck

If the Mavs get stuck in a 4 or 5 spot in the Playoff's, and are playing
then like they are now, then we won't have to worry about rooting for them
past the 1st round again. The approach they appear to be taking is the
approach of simply playing badly. And I think Avery would say exactly the
same thing. It's one mindless mistake after another..I'm hoping it's just
some missing players that are causing this mini-havoc...

Chris, I am not saying they are in a good place and I am not concerned about
the mindset. and I by no means have all the answers but it does appear as
they are taking a different approach than last year.

I was thinking about it last night, and i have not completely formulated the
theory so bare with me. BUT it seems like Avery is taking a page out of
Pop's coaching manual. Last season after the 0-4v start the Mavs blazed to
life and became THE team to beat in a lot of peoples minds and by game 82
the mavs were mentally emotionally and physically drained(i know
professional athletes, no excuses, but you know they are human too!) The
Spurs stay competetive all season while staying under the radar, last season
I know that some people had kinda forgot that they we were even a around
they werent making a splash staying off radars and had no bulls eye on their
backs and could focus on what they need to.

I think this year Avery may be looking at the season the same way, stay
competetive be in a position for home court at the end, but more importantly
healthy rested and focused on the ultimate goal.

Thats MY theory, I could be wrong.

Well, bottom line: This team is off, and in a bad way. The Defense has been
pathetic. They're just playing like they're tired. Like they're already 82

there..

What in the world are you smoking and where can I get some?!?!? What was
Dirk's line tonight? At one point tonight TNT posted a graphic that show
that Dirk was 7 of 11 from the field and the REST OF THE TEAM was 7 of 24!!!
If you want to pull that card on Dirk atleast do it on a night that he
scored 11 points not on a night he scored over 30.

As for the rest of the guys, George's first game of the season and you are
ready to trade him? Jones isnt even active and you want to dump him. Who
in the hell do you think you are going to get to play center and what do you
expect to give up in exchange because you can not make a straigh trade for
Damp and get anything worth while in return. And Stack??? you really want
to get rid of the most consistant leadership role they have?

Yeah I dont think so!
