So what did he say about the future of the IYAF? Do we even have a
future?

For anyone who is interested but did not yet order tickets for Shioda
Sensei's clinic this weekend, there are about 10 spots remaining.
You can phone the dojo (416-585-9602) or email me if you are decided
upon attending would like to reserve a place.
There may be tickets available at the door, but tickets seem to get
bought up quickly towards the end.

Just thought I'd add that Inoue Kyoichi Hanshi is no longer part of
Yoshinkan. It has been posted on the bulletin board at honbu that he
is now independent. Chida shihan, however, it seems is still part of
Yoshinkai. I went to a Chida sensei seminar two weeks ago that had
participants from a number of his dojo and honbu (It was absolutely
brilliant, by the way!)
I share your sentiments in hoping that Yoshinkan doesn't splinter
apart and that everything works out in the end.
I guess we'll see.
Anyway, planning talks about the future direction of the IYAF with
Shioda Yasuhisa Kancho is a great idea.
I wish there was a similar forum for discussion here in Japan.
Cheers,
Ian
In the past year or so LOTS of changes have occurred, I think most of us are
aware of them.
The biggest fear I have for our communal future is the "splitting" and
"fracturing" of the IYAF and of Yoshinkan Aikido. This is the path that has
been taken in other aikido 'schools' - I don't think anything positive can
come out of this.
Is the IYAF perfect? In my opinion - No!
Has it functioned yes - some might say like a dysfunctional family - but it
has functioned and allowed for the growth of Yoshinkan. We can debate about
specific incidents - good or bad, different types of growth - good or bad,
too fast to slow, quantity vs. quality etc...etc... I'm not always sure as
to the value of these debates - but I think they are healthy in the right
circumstances.
If ALL of us, from Yashiza Kancho, senior shihan and past and present honbu
dojo sensei the yoshinkan and IYAF directors and all of the dojo all have
one clear goal - that of a unified yoshinkan - then what ever
dissagreements, differences, arguments we have will be tempered by this
comon goal.
There are many sides to every story, reality is sometimes different from any
of the 'stories' everyone has there own take on history and what happened
and why - recent history and 'ancient history'. Let all try to keep these
things in mind as the next year? Or so unfolds.
For me, and I don't think this will come as a surprise to anyone, I would
like to see Inoue Kancho (past tile I know - but I'm unsure as to what his
new title is) and Chida Shihan involved with, teaching, and having a
leadership role within the yoshinkan. Both these fantastic gentlemen are no
longer at the honbu. That is a tragedy in it's self. A much greater tragedy
would be if they were not teaching, involved with, doing their part as
leaders within the yoshinkan community.
I know there have been some discussion / movement in terms of one or both of
these gentlemen creating their own organizations - similar to Takeno Shihan
and Ando Shihan - under the yoshinkan umbrella. For me this (everyone under
the yoshinkan umbrella) gives the best possibility for the yoshinkan to stay
strong and continue to grow. It might mean more dissagreements in the future
- but if all is kept civil and in perspective the dissagreements are good
and healthy for the organization.
We all have such a great opportunity to allow Shioda Kancho's vision to come
to fruition and fulfillment. This can happen if we all work toward making it
(continued growth and unification) happen. A case in point....
I was very surprised to have a call from Fred Haynes sensei last week,
Haynes sensei immediately insisted that I stop calling him sensei (which I
did not do) but was the only thing we 'disagreed about'. Haynes sensei has
helped Yasuhiza Shioda Kancho to organize a tour of many Yoshinkan dojos in
NA this spring. Haynes sensei's call was to arrange for Kancho sensei to
visit our dojo. I had seen a post on the yoshinkan -l stating that there was
going to be this kind of a tour - and was wondering who I would contact to
see if we could host him. I did not have to do any more work on this because
Haynes sensei was doing this for many of us.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Haynes sensei for
helping to facilitate this tour, - by the way the Haynes sensei's own dojos
are not on the tour - they have graciously bowed out to let others have this
opportunity - they have hosted Kancho a few times in the recent past.
This type of cooperation - is (can be) the real strength that the yoshinkan
- as a whole - can offer to all of us.
I hope everyone on this list and in yoshinkan aikido will do their utmost to
keep us all together in one, mostly happy, somewhat dysfunctional, full of
an eclectic groups and eccentric individuals 'family'!!
OSU!!!
Nic
I hear three more instructors are leaving from honbu this month. Can
you ask him why and post the answer here?

I thought that perhaps it was a common name but never realized it was that
common.

Jim,
I am not sure, but I doubt it. Inoue is a fairly common name in Japan
about as common as Johnston in North America.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this interesting group,I have been here in Russia for 14
years teaching Yoshinkan Aikido , if you would like to visit our web-
site there are some great pictures of both Inoue Hanshi and Chida
Sensei ,although the site is in Russian I am sure that you can navigate
to the photo gallery located on the left hand site.
Yours in Aikido
Dave
In addition to the clinics and events that we have planned for Shioda
Kancho's visit to Toronto (Feb 29 - Mar 2), we are planning to arrange
a time for IYAF dojo head instructors to meet together as a group to
speak with Shioda Kancho about his plans for the IYAF.
This discussion with Shioda Kancho is still being planned but will
likely take place on Saturday afternoon after training.
If you are the head instructor of an IYAF dojo and planning to attend
you can email me, or speak with Kimeda Sensei at the clinics.
