Replacement dropdown/derailleur hanger needed!!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2868 of 4842 |
To make a long, sad story short, something caught in the rear
derailleur of my beloved Y-77 last Saturday. The resulting torque
wrenched said derailleur out of the dropdown, breaking it. My LBS
phoned Trek for me, to see if there is anything they could do. As you
can guess, and after waiting an agonizing 6 days to boot, their reply
was not good news...no replacement will be forthcoming from them.
Supposedly, they suggested simply scraping the bike, if you can
believe that...a notion I obviously refuse to accept. I am therefore
looking for other alternatives. A check of ebay shows no current
items on offer, although I'll continue to look.

My preferences:
1. Find the part itself (probably unrealistic);
2. Acquire a second frame, if for no other reason than to have a
source of parts; and
3. Purchase a wrecked frame, assuming that the part I seek is intact.

If anyone can help or has any other suggestions, please let me know.

1. Fashion a new part from metal and J.B.Weld it to the frame. 2. Have you thought about a single sprocket on the front? Won't be the demon it used to be but...

Oops, I obviously misread this and thought it said front derailleur hanger. My mistake. Find a crashed frame or find a frame with similar lines and cut out...
