Re: [yfoil] Chain Keeper Ring?

Thanks fore the advice, Alex!

Phil, I do not know but my parts kit for the Y came with it. I have one installed on all my other bikes too. I figure it can not hurt. However, I am not sure it will help much on the Y frame. With the shape of the Y BB shell, that chainkeeper is flush with the BB shell. So a dumped chain will still slide down to the crank.

The key is to make sure the inner limit screw is adjusted with no slop at all so the chain barely grazes the derailleur when in the small-ring/big-cog combo. I have found this to be the best insurance against chain dumping. I can even get away with extreme cross-shifting (though I would not recommend it).

Ride always, ride safe.
Alex.

Subject: [yfoil] Chain Keeper Ring?

Did Trek make these chain keeper rings for Y-Foils too or just their traditional double triangle OCLV frames?

Hmmm, that's odd, I bought my Y77 from Chain Reaction and don't have the chain keeper installed. Are these keepers available aftermarket or through Trek only?...

Check this one out. It is a bit on the beefy side (not a bad idea for MTB application). Can probably have a machine shop make one with lighter gauge alu or Ti...
