October 16-18, 2004, I will be racing my bicycle “solo” in the Furnace Creek 508. The race is 508 miles long with 35,000 cumulative feet of climbing in and around Death Valley. There will be approximately 60 to 75 “solo” competitors including several from overseas competing this year. The Lord has truly blessed me and my family in so many ways. I wish that athletic opportunities like this were available to everyone.

I’m writing you today to ask for your help. By donating toward my fundraising goal, you will partner with me in helping people with physical disabilities realize their dreams. Your donation will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an incredible 501c3 non profit organization that provides grants to athletes with a physical disability. Your donations will directly help challenged athletes in need so they too can participate in athletic events such as the Furnace Creek 508.

I’m participating in the event of a lifetime and the Lord has blessed me with the financial resources to acquire the equipment that I will need on my bicycle race. But many of the athletes your funds support swim with no limbs – others use handcycles to bike or use artificial limbs to run. Like me, the challenge is to finish, but for them the obstacles are much greater. The challenge these athletes endure everyday is not one related to their disability but to funding.

It costs a lot of money for these artificial limbs that help them run. It takes special training for a person with no limbs to swim. And it costs about $2,500 to purchase a handcycle to carry them through the hills. My goal is to raise money to help support these athletes in their mission to overcome their obstacles. I am asking you to partner with me today and make a donation through my web site link below. You can be a part of this special experience and make a dream come true.

Thank you for your support,

Stuart Kroonenberg
