Beware of Brake Return in Cold Weather   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #23 of 8694 |
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this.... when the weather is
cold, the brake pedal will not completely return on my 3206.

It appears that the current resturn spring is not strong enough to
retract the piston fully out of the master cylinder. I've taken my
kart out on some cold days (probably in the 20's), and the brakes
will drag unless I put my toe behind the brake pedal and pull it
back. It appears that the cold weather makes the master cylinder
piston seal more stiff and harder to retract the piston.

This should be relatively simple to fix with a stronger return
spring. For now, it's a simple matter of pulling the brake pedal
back with my toe.

Just wanted to mention this to others because it's not real obvious
when this happens. The brake dragging is light so it may go
unnoticed. If they do drag all the time, then the pads will get
worn prematurely - as well as a little engine power will be wasted
with the extra friction.
