Today's Daily Telegraph claims that Terry Fenwick is
after the job at Yeovil Town. They mention him fairly
obliquely at the end of an article where they are
predicting a Chapple / Lippiatt reunion. Looks like
they've been reading Ciderspace!!

One Newspaper that has DEFINITELY been reading
Ciderspace is the national paper The Independent. In
their weekly non-league notebook they do a feature on
the weeks events around Huish Park and fill the
article with lots of quotes.

Now I can cope with the idea of them requoting stuff
that is taken from Official Press Releases, but a
couple of their quotes are actually taken from
personal conversations we've had with the club and CL
which we've later transcribed for Ciderspace. It all
seems a little bit coincidental!!

How long before the Independent starts running Huge
Huish Hugh articles for their weekly Conference
Round-Up ? ;-)

Anyway, I digress, we've updated the news page with
what was a VERY brief comment relating to Terry
Fenwick and also added in a few more quotations from
John Fry, most of which you've seen on the Ciderspace
mailing list already.

Oh please, no. He did a bloody awful job at Portsmouth and the last thing we
need is a so-called big name manager who hasn't a clue about the Conference.
Names like Brian Talbot, Jan Mjolby, Paul Futcher and John McGovern spring
to mind. Besides, I'd have thought the board had had their fill of ex-Spurs
players...

They could do a lot worse... Have you got an agent, Hugh? :-)

I tend to agree. Although there are people who break
that mould like Martin O'Neill and Sammy MacIlroy,
they were brand new to management and so were unknown
quantities.

However, the likes of Brian Talbot and John McGovern
had already failed at their old clubs in the league
and had merely dropped down a couple of levels to try
and re-establish themselves. Rather like what Terry
Fenwick is trying to do ......

I'd much rather have either an ex-top-pro who is brand
new to management but local to the area (e.g. Gary
Mabbutt - although he's ex-Spurs as well!!) or a
current non-leaguer who is known well in the
Conference - i.e. Steve Thompson, Dave Norton, Kevan
Brown.

Let's face it, if Terry Fenwick couldn't do a job at
Portsmouth, where he knew that standard of play and
that standard of player pretty well, how is he going
to cope in a league where he probably doesn't even
know who Carl Alford and Warren Patmore are, let alone
what sort of players they are.

Actually, there's a very funny story about HHH's
articles, which I shall tell the list, but not until
Sunday ......

Does anyone know where Terry Fenwick currently is ?

For those not knowing too much about his managerial
status, he was with Portsmouth between August 1995 and
January 1998. He was sacked when Portsmouth were
bottom of the First Division, and Alan Ball took over.

Then in July 1998 he moved to Crystal Palace to join
El Tel as assistant coach. Is he still there ? When
Terry Venables vacated the Director of Football
position, Steve Coppell came in, yet on the Palace Web
Sites, it doesn't explicitly say that Fenwick left.

Any ideas ?

Badger.

Wasn't his name banded about when Roberts got the heave-ho?

Rumour has it there were some "unofficial" discussions but the price was too
high.

Team News for Dover is on the Ciderspace News Page.
Along with the usual three out of action, Fozzie,
Wazza and Stotty face late fitness tests.

Plus we have a report on Thommo's interview on Radio
Bristol tonight where he discussed his plans for the
next six weeks and (WAIT FOR IT JON MORGAN) implied
that Yeovil's formation may be about to change!

Full coverage is on the Ciderspace News Page.

LIPPIATT WALKS OUT AT YEOVIL
NON-LEAGUE NOTEBOOK, The Independent, 1 October

DESPITE TAKING his team to the top of the
Nationwide Conference last month, Colin Lippiatt
resigned as head coach of Yeovil Town this
week.

The fall-out between Lippiatt and the Somerset
side's board was caused by his reluctance to
switch from part-time to full-time employment.
After announcing his departure from Huish Park,
he said: "I will continue to work in my full-time
employment and work part-time [in football],
coaching under a manager, which will greatly
reduce my workload and my time given to the
game."

Lippiatt is now expected to join Kingstonian and
renew his partnership with their manager, Geoff
Chapple. The two men shared much success
when they worked together at the latter's previous
club, Woking.

Yeovil have turned to Steve Thompson as
Lippiatt's replacement as head coach, at least on
a temporary basis. The experienced midfielder,
who is also the club's fitness coach, said: "I think
it's a great opportunity."

Prior to giving the Plymouth-based Thompson the
job of caretaker head coach for six weeks, the
Yeovil chairman, John Fry, said: "We could have
the answer within the club." As for Lippiatt's exit,
Fry added: "I was saddened but not surprised, as
we've been talking about this for a while. The
board made the decision that we needed a person
on a full-time basis."

If Lippiatt does join Kingstonian, he will be
making the move at the right time. The Surrey
side went to the top of the Conference on
Tuesday, thanks to David Leworthy's ninth goal
of the season which earned a 1-0 win at Welling
United.

Rushden's title challenge suffered a setback on the
same night when they were thrashed 4-0 at
Hereford. The Northamptonshire side are in fifth
place, two points behind Kingstonian and one
adrift of Stevenage, Nuneaton and Yeovil.

Forest Green Rovers are still bottom of the
Conference, but they are only one point behind
Hayes after Mark McGregor hit four goals in
Wednesday's 5-1 home win over Northwich
Victoria.

That's the article I was mentioning yesterday where
the Indpendent journalist seemed to have been looking
at our Ciderspace news page rather thoroughly and
taking his quotes from there. All jolly amusing - I'm
not that bothered about it - it's kinda nice if the
hacks from Fleet Street are hanging on our every
word!! I bet they haven't got a clue what the
Chocolate Cake Recipe bit is all about though! :-)

This is another particularly annoying admin message.
We had alot of new people join yesterday. If you are
comfortable with using OneList ignore this message, or
maybe skip to the last two paragraphs where I actually
say something new.

To send to the list send to yeoviltownfc@onelist.com -
you can obviously add that to your address book if you
don't want to remember it.

If you want to be in digest mode rather than normal
mode, if you go to http://www.onelist.com and sign in
using your e-mail address and the password you were
supplied with when you joined your first OneList list
then you can control your messaging options from
there. Alternatively myself and Jon have the ability
to change your options for you at any time.

Some people have asked me what we are hoping to
achieve with the new list and why we started it. I'm
sure I don't need to go into specifics but there were
clearly problems in terms of peoples opinions being
respected, and one too many flame wars. What we've
found on our Ciderspace Web-based forum is that with
Jon and myself in control, we've not had those
problems.

What we are therefore looking to do is to set up an
atmosphere where people feel able to contribute
without being too self-conscious about it - there's
been far too many occasions where we've felt that
genuine debate has become stifled in the past. The
direction of the list and its content will be
determined by yourselves, so don't see it as myself
and Jon "controlling" the list. Bar helping people out
with their list subscription options, ideally we will
do little else!

Any questions, please do ask, and apologies for the
formal nature of this message!

Badger.

That's true - anyone who doesn't read the Western
Gazette will be clueless!

Since the start of the season, a Fans Voice column has
sprung up in our local rag done by a lady called Cathy
Pickford. Last season it was done by Tim Lancaster,
who provided some excellent articles that were really
thought provoking and occasionally controversial.

Cathy's articles tend to be almost streams of
consciousness in that they read as complete ramblings.
There is no focus on any set of subjects - it's almost
like that was what was on her mind that week, rather
than her trying to make a point on a burning issue.

And so two weeks ago, apparently it was her birthday.
So in her article, half of it was about this birthday
cake that two fans had made for her and how much she
liked chocolate cake even though it is rather
fattening. This took up damn near half the article.

Then there is "George" her inflatable green alien. She
goes on about him rather alot.

Her articles have now reached the point where they
have become unintentionally funny and some of our
supporters are turning to that page first almost in
the same way that I will pick up the Daily Express and
turn straight to the Garfield cartoon before I start
reading the rest of it.

Maybe I ought to inflict whole articles on the list. I
have got permission from the Bristol United Press
(Western Gazette parent company) to reproduce their
articles on the Internet, so I think I ought to make
use of that!!

I'd like to se us go to 4-4-2 today (obviously!) but I'd be slightly
surprised if we did for Thommo's first game in charge. I reckon he won't
want to change things too drastically at first, but on the other hand if the
injury situation is as bad as it evidently might be then change could be
forced on him.

Just as a bit of idle speculation then if he did decide on a 4-4-2
formation, and assuming the only injuries we have are the long-term ones we
aready know about, then I 'd like to see this team:

Pennock, Piper (RFB), Pitman (LFB), Skiverton, Cousins (CD), Hayfield, Stott
(central MF) Archer (LW) Smith (RW) Patmore, Foster (FWD).

I wouldn't pick Stowell or Tisdale, but that's only because I haven't seen
them play yet. I have a feeling that Kevan Brown may well find himself back
in the team given his long association with Thommo as well. And that leaves
people like Jason Eaton, Chandler, Sparks, Stowell, Tisdale, Pounder etc all
fighting for a place on the bench. And we've still got Thommo himself,
Norton and Murray Fishlock to come back from injury! Of course, if Wazza and
Foster fail their late fitness tests then all bets are off - perhaps Arthur
Appleton will get a chance at last up front with Eaton?

Cheers,
Jon

Badger, jon or hugh.

Whilst browsing I (unfortunately) came across the Ru$hden site and saw that
they have live radio webcasts of every game on their site.

I wondered if

A) this was something we could do on Ciderspace

B) Do you need buckets of money to set it up

After thinking about it, I realise that it would probably cost a lot of
dough (something that Max obviously can cope with) but just wondered if you
guys had thought about such a thing??

Anyway, just a thought (for all those like me who can't always get to the
matches) and well done for the list...... can I type my off-topic mail now
or later :-)

Kick 'n' Ru$hden have their own Radio Station licensed to broadcast 28
times a year. They can thus cover the majority of home games - depending how
far they go in cups etc. I've no real idea how much such an enterprise
costs, but its a club initiative and, whilst presumably run by volunteers, I
guess capital costs must be in the thousands to set it up.

Just got back from Witney v Hinckley, so by now you all know our opponents
in the FA cup will be Witney, after their 2-1 win.
Ciderspace have asked me to put a report together, which I am doing now.

More importantly, send your Dover 'Internet Man of the match' votes to -
ytfc.motm@...
or use the voting form on ytfc.com or the link on Ciderspace.

Regards

More money than I've got, that's for sure! Like Hugh says, Ru$hden have
their own radio station which is a good start anyway... I reckon the nearest
we can get to it is giving you Badger's mobile phone number so he can give
you a running commentary throughout the match ;-) You didn't miss a great
deal this afternoon to be honest.

Cheers,
Jon

Paul, is this some cryptic tip-off as to who our new
manager is going to be if Thommo doesn't produce the
goods ?

Or have Witney got alot of cousins-of-famous-people in
their set-up ?
