From the Daily Telegraph - Friday 1st September (b***** hell - summer's
officially over!)

KING'S NOMADS HAPPY TO TRAVEL

One of football's little ironies this season is currently being supplied by
Telford United, whose unbeaten start happens to have coincided with a two-month
period in which they cannot play at home.

While the Bucks Head is undergoing a £9.5 million renovation, Telford are
playing their home ties on Worcester City's ground. No matter. The Shropshire
club have made light of the journey that can taqke 90 minutes to occupy second
place in the League.

In tomorrow's six-pointer, Telforsd receive Rushden & Diamonds, whose 100 per
cent record after four games in the Nationwide Conference has greatly impressed
Jake King.

Telford's manager, who saw the Diamonds beat Hednesford 3-2, has his glowing
opinion of them confirmed by a member of the Southport team humbled 4-0 on
Monday.

"Diamonds could have had five or six in the match against Hednesford and I heard
that it could have been 10 against Southport," said King.

My reaction: so they didn't get as many against Hednesford as us (maybe they had
a worse referee!) and got the same result against Southport as us - not.

As we're not due to play Telford away until next April, I presume we'll be
missing the delights of Worcester and tackling the M54 via Brum.

Cheers all,

Jonathan Wheeler

"Team Bath" are the Bath University side. They along with Barf City Reserves,
who
were (re-?)formed this year, were voted in the Western (Screwfix) League when it
was
restructured this year. Sadly, given the evidence of this performance, BCR are
in the
First Div not the Premier so our Reserves won't be able to put 20+ past them.

If Bath Uni takes its football as seriously as it does some other sports,
I'm not surprised by such a result. A number of our Olympic competitors
are there, including Colin Jackso, Allison Curbishley and others.

Just phoned them. This particular one does allow children in - but only over the
age
of 14. The HHH tribe will therefore have to go elsewhere. See you at the ground
folks.

The conference bulletin says of Yeovil: "Manager Dave Webb is pleased about
Yeovil's strong start to the current campaign: "Apart from playing exciting
football, we're also showing great spirit. And this was fully illustrated
against Woking where we came from two down." Midfielders Roy O' Brien (ribs) and
assistant manager Steve Thompson (calf) are the Glovers' only injury concerns
ahead of the weekend's trip to Nuneaton Borough."

But doesn't O'Brien start suspension anyway this weekend for the opening day
dismissal? It's normally 14 days after the offence.

I work with a lady who is going to be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in
2 weeks time in aid of BIBIC - the British Institute for Brain Injured Children.

YTFC were going to allow her to do a bucket collection to raise funds (she has
to raise £2,200 in total and at the moment is around £400 short) but
unfortunately they have pulled the plug on this. As a goodwill gesture they
have given Meg two tickets to see any YTFC match for her to auction/raffle.

If any kind hearted people out there would like to bid for a ticket or both
tickets please e-mail me with your bids. It really is a great charity and Meg
has worked extremely hard to prepare for this - Mount Kilimanjaro is 19,400 feet
high!! If she doesn't reach the target of £2,200 she will have to account for
any shortfall herself.

Alternatively, if anyone would like to make a donation towards the trek please
make cheques payable to M Thomson and send them to 140 Mudford Road, Yeovil,
Somerset, BA21 4 AL. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

The Cock and Bear pub right next to the ground is the usual choice.

As previously mentioned some people are going to Yate's Wine Lodge - because one
of
their number worked there some time in the past I believe.
As Hoagy says The Cock and Bear is the closest pub to the ground so there's
bound to
be some Yeovil fans in there - particularly nearer kick -off.
Doubtless there'll be people in the club bar before and particularly after the
game.
Nuneaton has always welcomed away fans in their bar in the past as I recall.
Hopefully that's still the same even after their experience with the Hereford
Neanderthals last season.

Could be wrong, but I don't think we'll be able to get in there. I thought the
entrance was within the ground, and now they segregate for all games (following
Hereford's visit).

In a response to my query on the Nuneaton forum it looks like they haven't
banned
away fans from the bar after the Hereford experience:

"When away fans leave their turnstyle there is nothing to stop them turning left
and
entering the clubhouse in the entrance just past the club gates. Nobody will
object
or try to stop(decent) away fans doing that. I'm sure there is no problem with
going

Shame really, but Webb's judgement has proved pretty sound so far.

The whole article is a balls-up by the looks of it. If you look at the Official
Site
for the news article that previewed the Southport trip, you'll see that they've
basically taken our copy for that preview and presented it rather badly by just
changing the name of the team. O'Brien was an injury doubt for Southport, but
passed
his fitness test and played in that game and the Hednesford game.

Unfortunately, it's not the first time the Conference Bulletins have ballsed
things
up. For example, they printed that Steve Stott had gone to Oxford City last
season,
whilst he was still a Yeovil player.

Indeed. Webb on the club hot-line lists BB, Steele and Ben as carrying knocks in
his
preview of tomorrow's game at Nuneaton. He is rather unspecific about whether
that
means they are unlikely to be available however.

Subject: Dave Webb's Verdict on the Hednesford Game!
yeoviltown@...
Send Email Send Email

Better late than never ..... both myself and Jon have been elsewhere this week!

Taken from the Official Site Hednesford Match Report at
http://www.ytfc.net/results_fixtures/00-01/0800-hednesford-home.htm

Dave Webb's Verdict on the Hednesford Game:

I don't think that today was as much of a test of character as I thought it
would
have to be, considering Saturday's defeat. The element of character we showed,
was to
come out and try and play a bit. On Saturday at Southport, we never really got
going,
but today, the character was that we didn't hide. We just got on with it.

However, we still made some mistakes. I've just said to the players to try and
think
about the mistakes, rather than the winning side of it. When you get three or
four
goals up, you have to learn another side of the game, namely to hold tight with
what
you've got. But they'll learn.

We started a lot brighter than we did last Saturday, and a lot brighter than we
did
last Tuesday in fact. Barrington Belgrave, more than anybody else, started it
off. He
lit the touchpaper by doing the things he's good at and doing them well. The
players
responded today to what he started off.

For the first penalty, Darren Way seemed to go for the ball, and I thought he
toe-poked it away first. Their fellow came in and seemed to fall over him. With
the
second one, I must admit, I saw Tom White coming down with his arm, but I
thought he
had already headed the ball away before he made contact with their player. I
actually
thought that we should have had a penalty in the first half, when Barrington was
about to have a shot and seemed to get taken from behind.

I wouldn't suggest that I wasn't impressed with the referee. I think you've got
to
ask him if he was impressed with himself - it's not for me to tell him what he's
got
to do. I'd rather ask him those questions everyone is asking, and try and find
out
the answers myself. It's not a criticism of anybody, because he can only referee
the
game the way he saw it. I just thought it was going to be one of those days when
you
don't get anything going your way, and the other team get two or three rubs of
the
green.

I think the first penalty was the first time that Tony Pennock had touched the
ball
in the whole game! I don't think he had even taken a goal kick. So he's done
ever so
well to get down for them both times.

I would have been happy with six points out of twelve if you'd given it to me at
the
start of the season. I'm more interested with how the season pans out. Someone
pointed out to me after the game on Saturday, that Kidderminster last year lost
their
first three or four games. So you never know, that could mean that someone down
near
the bottom at the moment is going to win it. No-one knows at this stage.

Ben Smith was injured today, as he picked up some ligament problems on Saturday.
He
should be alright this week, and he may even get out for the Reserves on
Wednesday.
He was just a bit sore this morning. He came out and did some running and it
didn't
work. It's the same thing with Paul Steele. He had a bit of a groin problem on
Saturday but he said it felt alright this morning. But as the game wore on, it
caught
up with him. And when you have two games in three days, sometimes it does all
catch
up with you.

Warren pulled a hamstring out there today. He said it started feeling a bit sore
and
tight. I was just about to substitute James Bent, and bring on Andy Lindegaard,
so it
was lucky he came over and told me.

I'm keeping my eye on a couple of potential players, although I'm quite happy as
things are. We had a reserve team game on Saturday, and I think the oldest
player in
the side was twenty years and four months! They won, but it's not the winning,
it's
the performance. We had Andy Lindegaard playing up front. I was trying to turn
things
round and play people in different positions, because I don't believe that
having a
large squad at this level does you any great favours. Players can get
disappointed
when they are not involved. If they can play in different positions, that helps.
With
younger players in particular, you don't get so many disgruntled players, and
you
don't get as many injuries.

[Dave was asked about the current situation regarding Murray Fishlock]

To be honest, I don't absolutely know what the current situation is. We let
Murray
Fishlock make his own mind up. Unfortunately, it's now looking as though he
might
have to come to grips with the reality that he might not play again. The same
thing
happened with David Seal. He went to see a couple of specialists, and they told
him
that the likelyhood was that there was no way that his right knee could take
full
time football. So he's now playing for Mangotsfield.

But with Murray, I left the door open for him at the end of last season. And I
think
the club have been tremendous with him. They've paid for all his trips to the
specialists. I wanted to give Murray the opportunity, but I don't like to make
too
much noise about it, because it's not the nicest thing in the world to know that
someone might not be able to play football again. He's the type of player who I
imagine would find something like that very difficult to accept.

ISTR several people mentioned that in their MOTM comments; and Hoagy certainly
did in
his match report.
Given we've gone full-time one would think that would be the very sort of area
we'd
be improving in. So far this season when Ben's been playing he's tended to grab
the
ball and try and do a Beckham - with singular lack of success it has to be said.
Without Ben on Monday they didn't seem to have any other ideas at all.

Yes, I mentioned this in my report on the game. I've never seen us get
so many free-kicks just outside the area, but we never really threatened
with one. If we'd had a Paul Batty, we'd have scored a hatful!

Jesus wept! It wasn't many weeks ago (about 3) that most people were
commenting on how we *only* seemed to score from set-pieces and were
wondering where a goal from open play was going to come from.... Now we're
moaning because we only managed to score 4 from open play and none from
set-pieces???

Let's have a sense of proportion here - sometimes we will score from
set-pieces, sometimes we won't. To be too reliant on one or the other is
equally undesirable. Having said that, If we score 4 in every game from now
until the end of the season, none of them from a set-piece then will anybody
really care?

I thank you.

Nuneaton 0 Yeovil 2

Darren Way 17, pen - who said we weren't scoring enough from set-pieces? :-)

Wazza 37, not a header shock!

According to Badger 2-0 is slightly flattering, though there's not much
doubt as to who the better side is. Don't let it slip now boys!

A quite extraordinary show of efficiency from sports.com considering there's
still 15 minutes to go :-)

Both defences were hesitant during the opening stages although the only
clear-cut chance in that period fell to Boro's Mark MacGregor when he fired
weakly into the side netting following Paul Steele's poor back-header.

But the visitors threatened soon after, Warren Patmore's across-goal header
found Terry Skiverton whose goal-bound header was parried by keeper Ryan
Young who reacted quickly to grasp the loose ball right on the line.

On 17 minutes it was Yeovil who took the lead when Darren Way netted from
the penalty spot after Barrington Belgrave had been upended in the area by
Jon Gittens.

Boro responded with Glovers' keeper Tony Pennock blocking Terry Angus' point
blank shot just seconds after Lee Charles volleyed over from 15 yards from a
MacGregor headback.

Nuneaton continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and came close
when Michael Love failed to get proper contact on a six yard header from
Charles' flick on.

However on 37 minutes, against the run of play, Yeovil stretched their
advantage when Gittins was caught in possession by Patmore who rounded Young
and slotted into an empty net
