Nigel Attwood:
An absolute classic which puts even the
come-back from 3-0 down against Doncaster in the shade. The best game I have
seen Arron Davies play and some of the best football from a truly superb Yeovil
team.

Tallglover:
What can I say, other than I WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!
(and how on earth do you pick a MOTM?)

Robert Hampson:
A truly magnificent team performance that fully deserved the victory and the
opportunity to play at the new Wembley and the chance for Glovers supporters
(plus hopefully those that will come again next season whatever the result) to
have a day out to remember.
After this display anything is possible - for a team that had scored less than a
goal a game at home all season to get 5 (that could have been more except for
the Forest goalie's efforts) was fantastic.
It made me proud to be a Glovers fan and I am still receiving calls of
admiration from the many people to whom I have extoled the virtues of YTFC over
the years.
Role on Wembley - and perhaps the Championship !!
Dave & Louise

Dave & Louise:
There can't be just 1 man of the match. All 11 (plus J-P) and the management
team deserve it!!

eddie dixon:
the best match i have seen for quite a while yeovil were brilliant bring on the

Dead-eye Davies sends Yeovil to Wembley
Nottingham Forest 2 Yeovil 5 (aet)
(1-3 after 90 mins; Yeovil win 5-4 on agg)
Last updated at 09:25am on 19th May 2007

Arron Davies capped one of the most remarkable play-off fightbacks with the goal
that booked Yeovil their first trip to Wembley.

The Wales striker kept a cool head three minutes into the second half of
extra-time to fire home the goal that consigned 10-man Forest to another season
in League One.

Yeovil manager Russell Slade, a Forest fan, said: "I’m pleased but exhausted.
When they scored early in the second half I thought we had a mountain to climb.

"But the chances never stopped coming and we kept on the front foot throughout
the whole night. Brian Clough said it only takes a second to score a goal — and
so it proved."

Forest, aiming to return to Wembley for the first time for 15 years, should have
read the warning signs from the first half as Yeovil produced some slick
football prompted by Marcus Stewart.

Goalkeeper Paul Smith deflected the ball over the bar when Stewart followed up
Lee Morris’s first effort.

But he was powerless to stop Davies opening the scoring.

Davies picked up Stewart’s pass just inside his own half and set off on a
lung-bursting run that ended with him cutting in from the right and drilling a
low 25-yard shot into the bottom corner.

But the game looked over two minutes into the second half as Scott Dobie headed
home Lewis McGugan’s left-wing corner at the far post.

But an incredible final 10 minutes turned the game on its head.

First, substitute Jean-Paul Kalala tried his luck from 30 yards only to see his
shot bounce off the post, back on to defender Alan Wright and into the net.

With three minutes remaining, Yeovil were level as right back Andy Lindegaard
swung over a cross that was headed gleefully into the net by Stewart.

The occasion clearly got to Forest substitute David Prutton. He had already been
booked for a late challenge when another mistimed tackle on Yeovil skipper
Nathan Jones sent Colin Calderwood’s men into extra-time with 10 men.

Forest contributed to their own downfall within a minute of the restart. After
Wes Morgan’s header lacked the power to reach his goalkeeper, Lee Morris picked
up the loose ball, coolly rounded Smith and slotted into the bottom corner.

Forest were back in it two minutes later when Gary Holt arrived after a
knock-down and slammed home.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST: (4-4-2) Smith; Curtis, Chambers, Breckin, Wright; Perch,

Warning - some strong language in this email from a Forest fan's website. Delete

R.I.P. NFFC

First things first, congratulations to Yeovil Town Football Club for taking a
well deserved victory at the City Ground last night. The better team most
certainly won and showed exactly what NFFC is all about in 2007.

May 18 2007 will be remembered as the day when Nottingham Forest Football Club
officially died. The responsibility for that lies in the hands of Nigel Doughty
and his cohort, Mark Arthur. Coming up, hot on the rails in second place for the
blame, is a collective playing staff, that in this clubs' 142 year history is
without a shadow of a doubt the worst the supporters have had the displeasure to
watch.

It's hard, the morning after the debacle before to come up with words suitable
to explain exactly what happened at the City Ground last night. Spineless,
bottleless, clueless and gutless don't do justice to such an abject and
miserable performance, but we'll give it a go. Fuckin' disgraceful doesn't even
get close.

I can't praise Yeovil enough for the way they went about gaining such an
emphatic victory. They played in such a way, it reminded me of the Forest of
old. Cavalier and enterprising, entertaining and ruthless. That small town in
Somerset will wake up this morning to the biggest hangover known to mankind and
deservedly so. The mighty minnows have come a long way in four years, from the
Conference, to hopefully the Championship and fair play to them. But forgive me
, that's where the pleasantries end.

When you take a 2 goal lead into a 2 legged tie, you have to commit one almighty
balls up to throw it away. Forest were the consumate professionals in doing just
that. Somehow, this bunch of waisting hasbeens, managed to drag their sorry
arses into extra time. 5-2 was the end result and it could have, infact should
have been much more, if not for the heroics of Paul Smith in goal. How the fuck
a goalkeeper can be your best player after letting in 5 goals is beyond me. But
trust me it's the truth.

Colin Calderwood can't escape without criticism. He is a man, who I have
defended to the hilt. But last night some of his decisions were questionable to
say the least. His substitutions at crucial times of the game were negative to
say the least. The blame for the seasons' failures can't justifiably be laid at
his door alone. Both Mark Arthur and Nigel Doughty have failed in one way or
another to back the manager financially and have failed to attract players of
sufficient quality to gain the club promotion. The end to this sorry season will
see us saying goodbye to what little quality we have, namely Tyson, Commons and
possibly McGugan. Quite frankly, the rest can just sod off to whatever club will
have them.

Last night`s defeat sees Forest spending a third season in what is the third
tier of English football. We deserve to be there and are worthy of that status.
We are there because of some monumental failings by the clubs` hierarchy. It`s a
waste of time calling for their heads, as there are no viable alternatives or
replacements. But until there is, Nottingham Forest will always have a place in
League 1, or lower. It goes without saying, that we will find it hard, nigh on
impossible to attract the kind of players capable of dragging us out of this
hellhole, but that is what we have o do. I make no apologies for this negative
and vitriolic article. The truth is, I`ve toned it down. I could go on, but by
now, you are probably as pissed off as I am. I don`t know where we go from here.

Slade praise for victorious Glovers

Russell Slade quoted the late Brian Clough as he summed up Yeovil's League One
play-off victory over Nottingham Forest on Friday night.

"It only takes a second to score a goal," stated Slade after the remarkable 5-4
aggregate win over Forest.

The Glovers were trailing 2-0 after the first leg of their semi-final at Huish
Park last week but took the tie to extra time at the City Ground as they won 3-1
on the night with two goals in the final eight minutes.

Slade's side edged ahead for the first time in the tie at the start of extra
time but were immediately pegged back by Forest.

But Arron Davies, with his second of the night, then delivered the decisive blow
after 109 minutes to send the Glovers to Wembley for the first time in their
history at the expense of 10-man Forest, who had David Prutton sent off on 90
minutes.

Slade, named League One Manager of the Year at the LMA awards earlier this week,
said: "It is strangely relevant seeing as we are here but I think it was the
late great Brian Clough who once said it only takes a second to score a goal. I
think that simply sums up the match.

"To score five goals away from home is an achievement. Our gameplan was to be
positive and we were."

With 33 away goals this season, Yeovil finished the campaign among the top
scorers in League One. Only Blackpool, with 36, found the net more times on
their travels.

Slade was aware of this and admits he always knew his team would score at the
City Ground.

"I did not know how many we would have to score to get through but I knew we
could do it," he said.

"We have scored a lot of goals away from home this season and I always fancy us
to get one or two with the talent we have.

"But to keep on the front foot for the majority of the match like we did was
frightening."

Forest boss Colin Calderwood immediately looked ahead to next season.

He said: "Obviously I am devastated to lose but we will get over it and start
again for next time. There is a lot of work to be done now over the summer.

"We must look forward but at the same time learn from what has happened.

"The gameplan was to score a goal. We knew that would make it difficult for
Yeovil as they would then have to score twice.

"Going into the last 10 minutes it looked like we would do it but credit to
Yeovil they are a good team."

No Complaints From Colin

Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood offered no excuses for his side's
dramatic play-off demise at the hands of Yeovil.

Reflecting on the shattering 5-2 defeat at The City Ground, Calderwood admitted:
"We were beaten by a better side and can have no complaints.

"We have had a bad night at a crucial stage of the season and we have not got
another game to come back and make amends.

"Yeovil deserve a lot of credit for the way they played. We knew they would have
a right pop at us because our 2-0 victory down there dictated that.

"At the start of the night we wanted to get a goal to make it really difficult
for Yeovil and although they opened the scoring, we pegged them back and got
ourselves into a nice position just after half-time.

"But we did not help ourselves at any time. Our choices were really poor and
negative at times and our basics were not really good enough throughout the
game.

"When David Prutton was sent off and Alan Wright got injured it made life really
difficult for us in extra-time and although we managed to get back on level
terms, it just was not to be."

Yeovil manager Russell Slade was delighted with the response of Forest fans to
his team's victory.

He said: "I thought the way the Forest supporters applauded us off at the end
was really fantastic. I feel for them at the moment but I'm delighted for my
players.

"We always had the belief that we could turn the tie around in our favour and at
no stage of the game were we on the back foot. Over the two legs I think we
created the chances that deservedly take us through to Wembley.

"It says something that the man of the match was the Forest goalkeeper - and
he's conceded five goals!"

Yeovil on cloud nine after scoring five
By Martin Smith
Last Updated: 12:47am BST 19/05/2007
Nottingham Forest (0) 2 Yeovil Town (1) 5
Agg 4-5

Graham Poll blew the final whistle on a 26-year career at the City Ground last
night. Even he could not have anticipated a denouement in which Yeovil came back
from two goals down with eight minutes to go to force extra time, or that he
would be forced to show a flurry of yellow cards, and his last red, as the
tension of the League One play-off semi-final spilled over.

In the end, Arron Davies' 109th-minute winner, the fifth goal in 26 crazy
minutes, took Yeovil through to meet either Blackpool or Oldham in the final at
Wembley tomorrow week. Forest had only themselves to blame for throwing away the
two-goal advantage they had built from the first leg a week ago.

To add to Forest's problems, they had David Prutton sent off for a second yellow
card in the third minute of time added on to the second half.

Yeovil had promised to attack from the start to overhaul that two-goal
disadvantage, and they were as good as their word throughout.

Arron Davies cut in on a diagonal until he found a central position from which
to drill the ball beyond Paul Smith. The significance of a Smith double save
became apparent within two minutes of the restart when Scott Dobie rose unmarked
at the far post to head James Perch's corner firmly past Steve Mildenhall to
restore the aggregate lead.

However, if Smith's first-half saves were exceptional, they were bettered in
importance in the second when he parried Wayne Gray's drive, and then kept out
Lee Morris' close-range effort with his left elbow.

It took an unlikely goal to beat him again.

Jean-Paul Kalala's fierce shot struck the inside of Smith's right-hand post, and
deflected off Alan Wright into the net.

Three minutes from time Marcus Stewart brought the aggregate scores level with a
close-range header, and in the second minute of extra time Morris put Yeovil
ahead, only for Gary Holt to level again within a minute.

Then came Davies' second solo effort of the evening. It was breathtaking and
nobody could begrudge Yeovil a magnificent victory.

Forest fans revolt after Yeovil hit five
Stuart James at the City Ground
Saturday May 19, 2007
The Guardian

Nottingham Forest suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in their history
last night as the former European Cup holders were humbled by Yeovil Town, a
club who were playing in the Conference only four years ago. Needing to overcome
a two-goal deficit from the first leg, Yeovil's task appeared forlorn but
Russell Slade's side played with remarkable belief to secure a place in the
play-off final against Oldham or Blackpool tomorrow week.

Frustrations boiled over as the home fans chanted Stuart Pearce's name in the
closing minutes. There were also ugly scenes on the touchline after the final
whistle when the Forest substitute Wes Morgan clashed with supporters before
police intervened. The despair coursing through Forest fans was understandable
because this season was expected to bring promotion to the Championship. Instead
the opportunity is Yeovil's.

"We are lower than anyone could imagine," admitted Colin Calderwood, Forest's
manager. "We had a bad night at a crucial stage and we got beat by the better
team. There are so many lessons to be learned." He insisted he is still
committed to getting Forest back into the second tier - "It was a great job last
summer and it's still a great job now" - but this sobering result will be
difficult to shake off.

Forest appeared on the cusp of a place in the final when Scott Dobie's equaliser
two minutes into the second half cancelled out Arron Davies's splendid
first-half strike. But with eight minutes remaining Yeovil struck twice,
Jean-Paul Kalala's shot going in off Alan Wright before Marcus Stewart, showing
the predatory instincts which made him such a success with Ipswich Town, headed
in at the far post.

David Prutton, the Forest substitute, was dismissed four minutes later after
picking up two needless bookings. The momentum was with Yeovil, Lee Morris
adding their fourth two minutes into extra-time. Gary Holt volleyed in to raise
Forest's hopes briefly a minute later but Davies, converting Yeovil's fifth in
the 109th minute, soon dampened spirits. "The message to the players beforehand
was 'We can do it'," said Slade. They did not disappoint.

YEOVIL STUNNERS ARE GOING TO WEMBLEY
BY JAMES MCNAMARA J.MCNAMARA@...
08:00 - 19 May 2007

Yeovil Town pulled off the greatest comeback in their history after overturning
a two-goal deficit at Nottingham Forest to book a trip to Wembley in the League
One play-off final.

On a night that will live long in the memory of Yeovil fans, Arron Davies jinked
into the box with six minutes of extra-time remaining to drill the ball past
goalkeeper Paul Smith for the fifth goal as the Glovers won 5-2 on the night and
5-4 on aggregate.

Yeovil will now go to Wembley to play the winners of today's Blackpool-Oldham
semi-final for a place in the Championship.

Yeovil boss Russell Slade was stunned after the win. "I don't know what I feel
to be honest," he said. "The lads put in so much effort and it took it out of me
as well.

"When they scored in the second half to make it 3-1 it was a mountain to climb
again.

"They kept going and going and creating chances and the chances kept coming. I
couldn't remember the score at one stage.

"To keep going and keep creating the chances we did and keep on the front foot
for the majority of the game was fantastic really. There's nobody out there who
could have given me anything more.

"I thought there were some tired Forest legs out there and if we kept going we
would get some opportunities again - and we did."

Nottingham Forest 2 Yeovil Town 5 (Yeovil win 5-4 on agg):
Yeovil break Forest hearts in thriller
By Mike Rowbottom
Published: 19 May 2007

Yeovil Town, two goals adrift in the second leg of their League One play-off
semi-final with just seven minutes of normal time remaining, produced a
stupendous comeback which earned them a Wembley appearance a week tomorrow
against the winners of today's tie between Blackpool and Oldham.

After forcing the tie into extra time against a Forest side reduced to 10 men
following substitute Dave Prutton's sending off in the 90th minute, they finally
settled matters in the 109th minute as Welsh international Arron Davies
collected his second goal of the night. Lee Morris appeared to have done the
trick for Yeovil two minutes into extra time with a breakaway goal following a
backpass from substitute Wes Morgan, but within a minute Gary Holt had volleyed
his team level on aggregate at 4-4 and Forest looked like making the penalty
shoot-out before Davies did for them.

The fans from Yeovil - who only came up from the Conference four years ago -
were rendered mad with joy, and the victorious players left the pitch to a
hugely sporting ovation from the home supporters that was acknowledged in kind.
The victory condemned the double European Cup winners to a third season at least
in the third tier.

Having won the away leg 2-0, Forest looked ideally placed. But as their former
manager Brian Clough once famously remarked, "it only takes a second to score a
goal". The adage was recalled afterwards by Yeovil manager Russell Slade, a
Nottingham man who used his local knowledge to relax his men with an evening's
10-pin bowling on Thursday. The collective strike came the following night.
"This has got to be the greatest comeback of my career," said Slade.

Davies had created early doubts within Forest with a goal after 22 minutes, but
when Scott Dobie headed home in the 47th minute, it seemed the home team were
back in charge. However, an 83rd-minute own goal from Alan Wright sent a
shockwave through the City Ground, and five minutes later there was silence as
Marcus Stewart made it 3-3 overall. The unthinkable was happening.

Nottingham Forest: (4-4-2): Smith; Curtis, Chambers, Breckin, Wright; McGugan
(Prutton, 56), Perch, Gary Holt, Commons; Dobie (Grant Holt 76), Lester (Morgan
85). Substitutes not used: Pedersen, Bennett.

Yeovil Town (4-4-2): Mildenhall; Lindegaard, Guyett, Forbes, Jones; Gray, Barry,

Yeovil battle back to fire arrow through Forest hearts
Nottm Forest 2 Yeovil 5 (aet; 1-3 after 90 min; Yeovil win 5-4 on agg )
Adrian Milledge

Old habits die hard for Yeovil Town. Arguably the FA Cup’s most renowned
giantkillers before they were promoted to the Football League only four years
ago, Yeovil once again showed no respect for reputations or, indeed, play-offs
tradition last night.

In sentencing Nottingham Forest to another season in Coca-Cola League One,
Yeovil became only the second team to prevail in a play-offs semi-final after
ending the home leg two goals adrift.

“It must have been a superb game to watch on TV but it was anything but for me,”
Russell Slade, the Yeovil manager, said. He was spot on with his prematch
assessment that Colin Calderwood’s team would be unhinged by a first-half goal.

It came as the result of a solo effort from Arron Davies, the wide midfield
player running at Forest’s retreating defenders from halfway before drilling a
low shot from 25 yards past Paul Smith.

Forest were rocking like a heavyweight pinned against the ropes before the
interval provided respite. Calderwood reorganised and immediately after the
restart Scott Dobie, rising at the far post, headed down and past Steve
Mildenhall to restore Forest’s two-goal cushion. As Yeovil pressed again, Andy
Lindegaard cleared off the line to prevent Grant Holt, on as a substitute, from
putting Forest out of reach and it proved a timely intervention as the game
turned on its head in the final ten minutes.

Yeovil went in front on the night when a powerful effort from Jean-Paul Kalala
struck a post and rebounded over the line off Alan Wright. Then Lindegaard
turned provider, crossing for Marcus Stewart to level the tie with a header.

Having forced extra time, and with Forest reduced to ten men following David
Prutton’s dismissal, Morris looked to have taken Yeovil to Wembley when he
capitalised on a miscued backpass by Wes Morgan.

Forest hit back through Gary Holt but Davies began what he had started by
completing the scoring. Yeovil’s reward is a first appearance at Wembley where
they will meet Oldham Athletic or Blackpool.

Paul Miller:
Superb effort. Took the game to Forest but we need soemone who can get the
goals we deserve. Dubious first penalty but they are often given - the
challenge on Morris second half equally merited a pen. Same performance next
week and we will win the tie.

Mike Faulkner:
How did we not win that match?
Surely Forest have used up all their play-off luck in this game, so we should
have spades of it at the City Ground
3 times this season we have not deserved to lose to Forest, we must be due a win
next Friday.
We can still do it -but we must score the first goal.
Thought Arron was outstanding, his best performance in a Yeovil shirt, but he
should have scored with that massive chance early on.

We were robbed. We never get a fair deal from this ref. His assistants were a
waste of time and when they did get involved the ref ignored them. Well done the
lads and the management, were not out of it yet.

Steve Vaux:
My how we miss Leon Best.
In the closed season Russ needs to find someone to cross with his left foot and
a big tough front man to stick them in.
Marcus Stewart needs to become a midfielder - he's not the target man!

Tallglover:
What can I say? Writing this the morning after, I still can't believe we lost,
let alone by 2. A lot has been said about the one penalty given in our favour
this season, but I can't remember off-hand any that we've conceded. And 'if
only'... Smith's save with his foot, Stewart hitting the post, Gray heading
wide.... That said, a rip-roaring second half performance that, in a way,
neatly highlighted the areas within the team that we need to work on. Firstly,
the left side; AD was given MOTM yet for me he failed once to get to the byeline
- solely down to his lack of a left-foot, so he continually beat his man and
then had to get back onto his right foot. On the few occasions that Jones pushed
forward, he reached the byeline and put in a better quality ball. Second, our
presence in the opposition box; if we're going to continue our season long habit
of crossing from deep then we need someone with the strength and ability to
attack from ten yards out ie as Best did. That said, we expo
sed Forest's weaknesses repeatedly, which Calderwood tried to address by
bringing on the lump Morgan , and if we start next Friday as we finished then
the fat lady is yet to sing! An early goal for us and the pressure's on
Forest.... can't wait

Bruce Turnbull:
Watched while on holiday in Spain, more vino tinto subsequently consumed.

Tom Isaac:
Very unlucky but the lads gave thier all.

Tim Lancaster:
I was very proud to be a Yeovil supporter tonight, the place was packed to the
rafters, proving the support is there, it just needs to be marketed better to
get the missing faces to come regularly. The atmosphere was cracking, probably
the best since Enfield. The second-half was excellent, but in all reality the
game is up, although I am sure the team will not feel like that. The very least
we need is an early goal to silence the 30,000 at The City ground, and at least
set the Forest nerves jangling. It is going to be very hard though.

There are occasions when the outcome of a football match bears little relation
to the balance of play. This was one.

Gutted but proud

Yep, Sky Sports One at 7.30pm on Friday night, also repeated at midnight, 3.00am
and 6.30am the following morning.

The scheduling of both the matches and the Sky coverage has been all over the
place, but I expect on Thursday we'll run a news item giving a list of all of
the times that the match will be shown on Sky.

For those that use Ciderspace and maybe don't bookmark The Green Room, there is
a permanent link to the Green Room (along with most of the other relevant/active
YTFC sites) on the home page of Ciderspace. Hence if you lose the Green Room
link that is a way of getting into it easily.

The "Forum" link that is on the site menus on Ciderspace will get taken down
sometime over the summer now that the old Ciderspace Forum domain is well and
truly dead.

David Houghton:
The best performance I have seen Wayne Gray put in all season - he challenged
for everything and put in tireless running throughout. Let's hope he can take
that determination and form into the playoffs...
