I CAN'T WAIT AROUND ON QUINN SAYS BOSS WARD
09:30 - 02 August 2005
Cheltenham Town boss John Ward will not wait for an answer from James
Quinn as he strives to sign a striker before the new season starts on
Saturday. Ward has made an offer to ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward Quinn,
who is wanted by other clubs, but has yet to hear back from the Northern
Ireland international.
Ward has approached 'three or four' other strikers about joining the
Robins on a long-term loan but he said that Bristol City's Steven Gillespie,
who enjoyed two spells at Whaddon Road last term, was not one he had
enquired about.
He said: "James Quinn has not come back to me and I cannot sit and
wait and do nothing.
"I've put in a few phone calls and am waiting for those to get back
but I cannot just wait for James Quinn, because if he decides to go
elsewhere I could be left in the water.
"If he was coming I would really like him to be here this week. I do
not pre-judge anybody, I judge them on what I find.
"I would love to be in the position to make a decision about which
player I can take on, but at the moment we have not been in that position at
Cheltenham Town."
Defender David Woozley has left Oxford after his contract was
terminated by mutual consent.
The 25-year-old endured an injury-ravaged campaign last year.
Defender Josh Gowling is poised to sign a one-year deal at Bournemouth
