Yeovil maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the Nationwide
Conference - but had some anxious moments when ten-man Hereford pushed
forward for the first 30 minutes of the second half looking to cancel out
the Glovers' 1-0 half-time lead.
Yeovil played some fine football in the first period and only the brilliant
goalkeeping of Matt Baker kept the scoresheet blank until the 24th minute.
A free kick on the left was floated in by Lee Johnson. Terry Skiverton
headed back across the goal and Adam Lockwood nodded home.
The match exploded in the 34th minute when Skiverton sent Danny Williams
crashing to the ground with a fierce challenge.
Williams held the ball between his legs and players of both teams piled in
with feet and fists flying everywhere.
The referee consulted both linesmen and sent off Hereford's John Grant,
booking Skiverton.
Early in the second half Hereford had their best chances. Paul Parry almost
cashed in on a poor clearance by Chris Weale in the 50th minute but six
minutes later the Glovers' keeper redeemed himself when Parry produced the
best Hereford shot of the match.
Yeovil put the game out of sight with two goals in a minute, much to the
relief of a massive 6,487 crowd.
Michael McKindoe set up the first for Kevin Gall, and the recent signing
from Bristol Rovers then turned provider doing good work down the right to
set up Kirk Jackson.
Hereford's misery was completed in stoppage time when skipper Tony James
conceded a penalty for a foul on Kim Grant. James was red carded although
Hereford boss Graham Turner believes he got good contact on the ball and
will study a video before appealing.
When the dust had settled McKindoe banged home the fourth from the
spot-kick.
