Hi Chris,
Thanks for the clarification. It is a sigh of relief
that somebody finally clarified that the safety of the
fighters was first and foremost in the agenda of the
fight organizers and that the referee is a properly
trained and briefed middleman. Again, let me
reiterate that my comments about the officiating are
based solely on the exchange of emails between Henkell
and Bon. I wouldn't have reacted and replied to the
email, but was just merely prompted to do so because I
was under the impression that the fight in question
was poorly officiated to the point that the fighter's
safety was threatened. I reacted as a concerned
Yaw-Yan brother who's only impulse was to make sure
the fighters are safe. But now that you've given the
clear picture of what really happened between the
referee and the fighter's corner during that fateful
fight, now I can calm in peace. Again, I am here in
LA and didn't have the chance to watch the fight, and
I stand corrected if I may have envisioned the fight
in a wrong way, which again, was based solely on what
I have read in the emails describing the fight
details. And bro, yup, we all agree that the weight
should be the basis for matching, not the age nor the
physical prowess of the fighter. Indeed, Yaw-Yan is
on the right track and doing great. It's been 11 years
since I left the Philippines. I may visit as
balikbayan this year and it'll be good to see my Pasay
Yaw-Yan brothers again, specially my good buddies
Salladin and Tabuyoc (wonder if he is still
fighting?). For sure so many things have changed since
then. Next time we meet, I owe you guys a round of
beer. Mabuhay ang Yaw-Yan!
