The following post is by Sue Taft, Executive Director of the
International Whitewater Hall of Fame (IWHoF) and Museum:
We are getting the word out to area whitewater groups about our
upcoming IWHOF Induction Weekend, October 20 (Induction Dinner and
Ceremony) and October 21 (Whitewater Legends Brunch) in McHenry.
In case you had not heard, our 2006 Class of Inductees are:
Advocates- Tom Johnson (USA) and Martin Litton (USA)
Champions- Gisela Grothaus-Steigerwald (GER) and Scott Shipley (USA)
Explorer- Herbert Rittlinger (GER)
Pioneer- Jim Snyder (USA)
Gisela and her son will attend as will the daughter of Herbert
Rittlinger (deceased 1978) to receive her father's award. It should
also be a great event to celebrate with one of our "local" boaters-
Jim Snyder.
We are also spreading the word about the opportunity to be one of the
first boaters on ASCI's new whitewater course. You can buy a ticket
to the Whitewater Legends Brunch on Saturday October 21 and not only
meet our whitewater legends but also receive a tour of the course.
And, as an attendee of the Brunch, you may also be able to experience
the rapids created by the McLaughlin Wave Shaper. If you
1) would like to paddle a kayak or canoe or ride a raft,
2) are experienced on Class III water and
3) have your own gear,
contact Matt Taylor mtaylor@... to become part
of the first-come, first-served participant pool. There are a limited
number of tickets available for the Brunch so buy your ticket now at
http://www.adventuresportscenter.com/IWHOF/invitation.htm.
Thanks- hope to see you there.
