I just found out that the person that was going
to attend the game Saturday will not be able to go.
As I do not want to waste the ticket, does someone
have a friend (and Spirit fan) who would want to go
and see Mia?
Yes, I've seen the schedule for the playoffs. I
think that the way the playoffs are set are fine. It
wouldn't be right to see all 8 teams playing in the
playoffs. When it comes down to it, everyone wants to see
the four top teams of the year playing one another.
If all the teams could play in the playoffs, then
you probably have one team or more that wouldn't play
it's hardest during the season to save up all there
energy for the post-season to make there mark. I think
things are fine the way there are. In the future, the
league will probably make more playoff spots but that's
after expansion of more teams.
I don't think there have any problems going back
and playing with there US teamates. It's kind of like
moving away from someone close in your life. You move
away and two years later you see them again. You think
to yourself that they have no clue what you've been
through in your two years apart from one another but then
out of the blue they start a conversation about
school, work, so on. The point is that most of these
women have played so long with one another that they
know what there teammates are going to do. They have
such a special connection that they know there
teammates pretty well. As for the game in July, Don't be to
surprised if alot of the regular national team players
don't play. I think there was a newspaper acticle that
I read that said most of the US national players
were going to concentrate on the WUSA this year. We'll
see in July! We'll probably know alittle bit more in
June.
has anyone seen the full schedule for the year?
there isn't much of a post season playoff. Top Four
teams move on w/ 1st playing 4th and 3rd playing 2nd
and winner of those games goes on to the
championships... I thibk all the team should be eligable for
playoffs cause there's only 8 of them....
christel
well i certainly can't argue with what you
said...but that leads me to thinking about how the players
might have a difficult time playing with the national
team when they do come back--because they'd be so used
to playing with their wusa teammates. i know that
the u.s. national team has a game on july 3 against
canada...would they have enough time to train (with each other
so that they're used to each other again) when the
wusa schedule is so full? i mean, san diego, new york,
washington and carolina all have games just 3 days before
that; and atlanta and phildelphia has a game 2 days
before...would the national team members miss those games?
I know you haven't given up on the Spirit, yet.
It's going to take some time for everyone to get on
the same page. I believe there's enough talent out
there. There isn't alot of national experience with alot
of the women playing but that's where having someone
like MacMillan, Foudy, and the others will help.
They'll be teacher for the ones that don't have the
experience. It was a dream for alot of the national team
members to have a league of there own but with there own
league they knew that other women deserved the same
chance to play. When the national team plays again,
there'll be better then before the league. These ladies
will be better since there playing more games during
the season. I think it's all good for women in
soccer.
true. and no, i haven't given up on the spirit
yet, i'm a big fan of macmillan, foudy, karlsson, and
several others, but don't you think that the talent is
spread a little too thin in the league? this league is
supposed to be helping the national team members train,
but the level of play seems to have drop. what would
that do to the national team when they come back
together?
They had a good reason to be nervous during there
first game. It was the very first game ever for this
team. When it's the first game no matter what sport
your playing, there will always be nerves that come
into play. As for the kinks, to really know what your
team mates are going to do in a certain situation, you
have to work with them for awhile. It's not something
that's going to be worked out in 4 or 5 preseason games.
I wasn't at the game but I've watched the two games
that were on tv and the nerves and kinks showed up in
those games too. Just give it a couple of game before
you start giving up on the Spirit. They will come
back and start scoring you can bet on that!
i guess...but a lot of people (even me) are
saying that the players are really nervous because it's
the beginning of the season, but didn't they play at
least 4 or 5 games during the preseason? wouldn't the
nerves and kinks be worked out by now?
I do believe that it was an off night for the
team. I personally believe that there were alot or
nervous players out there and all around the league. By
next week, there will be alot more goals scored now
that the first games are over with. San Diego will do
better I know for a fact. It's just a matter of staying
calm and having fun.
hey, just got back from the game.
we didn't
start the season the way we wanted...philly gave us a
2-0 loss, which is pretty impressive, seeing how
everyone is saying that the charge is gonna finish last at
the end of the season...so, what do you think?...was
it an off night for the spirit, and we hopefully
will improve and make it to playoffs...or is that the
best we can do?
Hey, yeah i've been away for a while too, can anyone clue me in on anyhting i
missed!!
- Who else is unbelivably psyched about seeing jules in
action!!!!! :)
- Jenny
>When do the banshees sing?

I coulda sworn I answered this question
before...

Oh wait. That was another board. Do I need to repeat it here?
:-)
WUSA is doing extremely well advertising this
league. Mia and Jules were on cbs last morning and CNN
and Rosie's show and brandi was on HBO sports being
inter iewed and a bunch of the players are all over
talk radios and there's a bunch of billboards. Just
makes this season even more of hype ;) who's going to
the first game?
christel
hey cool!

well unfortunately, my school
and soccer games conflicted with some of the san
diego games, so i only got to see one of their
game--the under 21 game

were you there? i'd probably
saw you there, somewhere...
well, my bf's mom (her name is joellen) found out that siri was in town and she
insisted that i go talk to siri, so she talked to my teachers at school and they
okay-ed it!
Hey, just heard you on Jeff Scott's radio show. I
was at ARCO last week also - only got to listen to
part of his show that week, as I forgot to turn the
radio on until 11:30. Did you get to watch any of the
Spirit games down there? Don
well, it wasn't like a professional interview or
anything, i just got to ask her some questions for 5 or 10
minutes, i forgot half of the stuff she said because i was
too excited...lol...but yeah, i gave my friend the
whole thing and you can read that if you want,
