This Sunday's practice will be from 2-4 p.m. at our courts. Hopefully we
won't have any more issues with other people using the courts. And just
in case you've been confused, unless stated otherwise, there will be
practice:
MONDAY, THURSDAY 7-9:30 PM at our courts
all other SUNDAYs 1-3 PM at our courts
Also ya'll should get out on your own time and play challenge matches as
there will be prizes for the top 3 finishers! =-O
So the varsity team pulled another fast one on us and took the courts,
we're going over to Heman park to play until 3ish
call if you need directions (573)864-3564
Nathan
The first match of the spring Tennis on Campus league is tomorrow at
1:00 pm at our courts. Rolla and Mizzou are both on spring break and
won't be coming. So it'll be a rematch between us and SLU. They beat us
last semester and so this is our chance to show them who owns this
town, booyah!
As of right now we're going to play WTT format, but that might change
based on how many people they bring. We'll try to start at 1:00 so
get there early to warm up.
Also, SLU has a lot of girls, and they're pretty good, so we need more
of our girls to show up and whup up on em. If you're a girl and you
can come, please do!
There are a lot of dudes but we'll try to get everyone a match.
See you there!
Here's the lineup:
Girls:
1. Chelsea Roberts
2. Lisa Tsang
3. Gwen Bugger
Guys:
1. Nathan Killian
2. Doug Disabato
3. Jeff Marlow
4. Gene Cherng
5. Max Rosen
6. Ashish Khatri
7. Mike Plotzke
8. Stu Webb
9. Nate Schaffer
Clubbers,
Someone left their nalgene water bottle on the courts at Monday
night's practice. It says Depauw University, has a blue cap, and has
an adorable sticker with cartoon bears marching in line. Contact me
if you ever want to see your bears again.
Ashish
Also I forgot to mention, The Don teaches tennis through the USTA NJTL
program to area kids on Sunday afternoons and could use volunteers,
email him (njtlucity@...) or talk to him at practice if you'd like
to help out.
Thing 1: If it doesn't rain then we'll have practice tonight
Thing 2: SLU's club team has some programs going for tennis outreach and
they've invited us to help out with one of them, see the info below, if
you're interested let me know!
The Block Party is at Heman Park tennis courts on Saturday
may 12th from 1-4 pm.
If rain , the tennis block party will move to the centennial
commons recreational center just west of the tennis courts
in Heman Park.
(Just across 2 baseball fields)
need 10-12 tennis club members to run the various tennis
games for the 200 Underprivileged youth expected to attend- we’ll give out
free rackets -or kids again and also serve –our
traditional hot dogs,chips,and lemonade
Hey, I hope you all had a great spring break! So we've got some upcoming matches to look forward to, please reply if you want to play in any of these:
1. Tourney at home, this Saturday, March 24, 1 p.m.
2. Match at home vs. Vanderbilt, Saturday, April 7, 3 p.m.
3. Tourney hosted by SLU (probably at Dwight Davis), Saturday, April 14
I'll let you know as soon as I find out about Nationals (we'll leave the afternoon of April 25, come back afternoon on April 28). If you have a test during this time it'd be worth it to ask if you can take it later or during the trip.
Also, we'll have practice tomorrow at our courts from 7-9:30 pm, see you there!
Hey, so let's try to send in the Nationals entry application form before spring break. This means I need to get signatures from people who would go if we get in. The roster can be changed, but they want our roster to be reasonably complete so they can background check everyone/ make sure that everyone is a registered student.
If you'd like to go please send me an email with a time that I can meet you tomorrow to get your signature (preferably not 10-11, 12-1, 2-3) otherwise I might have to call you/hunt you down.
Again, Nationals is April 26-28, we would leave on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 25 and come back the afternoon of Saturday, the 28.
Hey yall
I have to extra Welcome Back To Tennis shirts, both large. If anyone is
interested, let me know. These are guaranteed to be THE hit fashin
item within the enxt 5 years. Mark my words. They'll probably fetch 4
figures on eBay when you advertise that you have one of the ORIGINAL
Welcome Back to Tennis shirts. Just lettin you know, you know?
Doug Disabato
Hey Folks,
Just to make sure it's clear, we're having outdoor practice on Sunday
from 1-3 at the WashU courts. Anyone and everyone who wants to play
should come out. It might be a little chilly, but we'll have brand
new tennis balls for you to play with!
Ashish "Welcome Back to Tennis" Khatri
It looks like there's no hope for getting the lights turned on before
spring break, so no practice tonight or next Monday, Thursday. But we
might take some cars over to Heman still.
Nathan
First of all, sorry for any confusion I caused, but practices are going
to be MONDAY (not Tuesday as I said in the last email) and THURSDAY from
7-9:30 p.m. and SUNDAY 1-3
p.m. at the Wash U courts (outside the AC). They gave us an extra 30
minutes on Monday and Thursday, which is nice. *Note there is no
practice tonight as they will not be turning on the lights.*
I visited some folks at the AC today to discuss the lights on the tennis
courts. The current policy is that they only turn on the lights "when it
gets warm" , which apparently they determined is immediately following
spring break. I made the case that they should turn them on whenever
it's warm and we'll find out tomorrow if it worked and if we can have
them turned on Thursday.
Issues with the lights have occurred in the past and some club tennis
members have voiced their dissatisfaction with the athletic dept.'s
facilities policies. Last spring this happened and they threatened to
never turn the lights on again. So please, do not under any
circumstances antagonize the staff at the AC about turning on the lights
or at least don't identify yourself as being from club tennis.
In any event, we will start having regular Sunday practice outdoors this
week. See you then, and try and get out on your own while there's
sunlight and warmth if you can. Also note, there are 8 public courts, 4
of them lit near campus in Heman park. Call me if you need directions (
573-864-3564 )
Anyone know if Flynn park has lights?
Nathan
Here's the list for this Sunday, It's mostly people that haven't been
able to come yet. Let me know if you can't make it ASAP and meet at the
S40 PD parking lot at 6:30 as usual. We'll probably cancel next Sunday's
(March 4th) practice and start practicing outdoors on campus this week.
*The outdoor practices will be Tuesday and Thursday 7-9:30 pm, and
Sunday 1-3 pm, *open to all club members. Look for another email on
Monday confirming Tuesday practice.

have a sweet weekend
-Nate
Let me just say that Wash U Club Tennis is freakin' awesome. Even though we didn't take home one of the 2 coveted spots for Nationals, I'm still really proud of our performance this weekend. There was a lot of great sportsmanship and team spirit displayed as well as spectacular steak consumption, including the ingestion of a 28 oz.'er by our own Max Rosen.
They said the match scores would be posted online but I haven't found them yet, if anybody does find them please send an email out to the group. Here's a quick overview: Team 1 had a pretty easy initial draw posting wins over Iowa State 3, U. of Nebraska - Lincoln 2, and Kirkwood community college. They then proceeded to lose a close match (19-26) to U. of Nebraska - Lincoln 1 in the gold semifinals. Our Team 2 had a tougher initial draw and after beating U. of Nebraska - Omaha, lost to Drake U. and U. of Oklahoma. They went on to win their bronze semifinal match against ISU-3 and then lost in the finals to U. of Arkansas, who isn't in our section so we basically won.
I also chatted with SLU's club president and we're going to try and have weekly matches with them, more on that later.
We have 2 more Sunday indoor practices and I encourage everyone to get out on their own time.
Finally, keep in mind that Nationals is April 26-28 and we have a good shot at getting one of the 30 non-section finalist spots. We should apply for a spot soon so let me know if you're not a huge Reel Big Fish fan and you think you can go.
Whatever you do, don’t drive through
Kansas City to
get to Desmoines!

So the word on the street is there is a Club Tennis Party in Myers 43 on Friday. 10:15 Pm. Nas and GB say to bring some money for beer (especially if you plan on playing some beer pong) & liquor too. Anyways, hope you can come! Feel free to bring friends (although non-tennis players generally aren't as cool but we'll still be nice to them). It's bound to be a great time and Chelsea says she will do a little dance for the team. Oh Myers 43 is Vicky's suite by the way. Direct any questions her way.
Ok, so if you want to play a little bit extra indoors, you need to talk
to Mike Mattingly at Vetta by email:
mmattingly@...
Tell him what time you'd like to play and that you're with the Wash U
club and he'll write you down on the court sheet. The rate will be
$15/court/hour unless it's during peak hours (~6 p.m.), then it will be
something like $25.
Hey Ya'll,
I'm still trying to get something worked out with Vetta so we can play
outside of our scheduled team practices. Also....here's the initial list
of people going to sectionals:
Andy Harding
Ashish Khatri
Becky Fifer
Ben Oberman
Chelsea Roberts
Doug Disabato
Gene Cherng
Gwen Bugger
Jeff Gole
Jeff Marlow
Nathan Killian
Max Rosen
Vicky Crago
We can still take more girls! And most likely a spot for 1 more guy. We
may need to have a short round-robin to fill this spot. If you're a dude
that has told me you want to go to sectionals but you aren't on this
list, email me again if you are still interested and can go to practice
this Sunday, 7-9.
Also the word on the street is we'll be having a party on Friday, more
details later
Have a good Tuesday,
Nathan
