It was great to see a bunch of people come out to practice today. Hopefully the trend will continue for Friday's practice. Plan on being at the courts at 6 p.m. (or earlier if you've got your own tennis balls and want to hit). If enough of us come out we can steal the courts from everybody else . . . I know that's kind of evil but I don't mind so much.
So possibly the best weekend we've had all year went by and we couldn't practice Sunday!! But the varsity team played well and came out with a win. It was a great match to watch. Practice is on for Tuesday (tomorrow, 6-8 pm), but it's supposed to rain in the afternoon. Just our luck. As usual, if it's raining we'll have to cancel practice.
The varsity team has home matches Wed. and Thurs. this week so I'm thinking about having practice on Friday afternoon just because we haven't been able to get out much. I'll let you know for sure in the next couple days.
In the meantime, call up some people and get out there to hit! Take advantage of the nice weather while it's here!
Sorry for the late notice, but due to a Varsity home match at 1 p.m. today (Sunday April 3) there will be no practice.
However, this is one of the team's biggest matches of the year, so I'm sure they would appreciate our support. Hopefully ya'll will read this before coming to the courts.
Hey Clubbers,
Did you know we have a phone book of Club Tennis Members? It'd be
much more useful if everyone input their numbers. It's a great tool
to find someone to play with on those gorgeous days we don't have
official practice.
To put your number in the data, go to the listserv website:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/wuclubtennis/
Click on Database in the menu on the left side, then click on the
phone book, and finally there's a list of options on the right side of
the page, click on Add Record. Now you can input your info. Easy
enough.
Now, get out and play!

Thanks to everyone who came out today. It was great weather for our first official practice and hopefully ya'll got to meet lots of people too. Our next practice will be from 6-8 pm at the Varsity courts on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the forecast calls for rain. If the courts are wet practice will be cancelled. If that happens, look for an e-mail about moving practice to Wednesday.
Be sure to put your info in the yahoo group database or join our facebook group.
Just a reminder that our first club tennis practice is tomorrow at
noon, and that we'll be having a very important meeting beforehand
at 11:30.
See you tomorrow,
Chuck
Sorry for the change in plans but better to let you know sooner than later, right?
It looks like the rooms I want to use are booked already, so plan on coming out early to our first practice on Sunday (you would anyway, right?) and meeting there instead of on Friday. This also seems to work best due to e-mails I've received about classes, formals, etc.
Here's the key info:
Sunday March 20th
11:30 a.m. Varsity Tennis Courts (next to AC)
Brief meeting then practice from 12-2
Don't forget to bring $10 with you! I'll also have the roster form and some t-shirts for pickup/sale ($15 each if you haven't paid).
Hi,
I'm being initiated into my sorority on Friday at 5:00pm, so I will not be able
to attend the meeting, but I would like to continue to participate in club
tennis for the remainder of the semester.

Subject: [wuclubtennis] MANDATORY MEETING
Hey everyone!
Hope break was exciting, relaxing, or whatever you wanted it to be. Our club
team competed in the National College Campus Championship in San Diego and came
in 19th. So we're 19th in the nation!! Gotta gimme some fluffy on that one
(that's for you Mr. Gole).
I plan on having a mandatory Club Tennis meeting this coming Friday, March 18th
to discuss what will be going on for the rest of the semester. It's absolutely
imperative that anyone interested in participating in any way, shape, or form
come to this meeting.
I'll be collecting dues of $10 per member so we can buy equipment, fund any team
trips/tournaments, buy court time if necessary, etc. I'll also be having people
sign up on our roster so you can be considered an official member of the club.
It's very important that you get on this roster.
Plan on meeting on Friday, March 18th at 5 p.m. in the Danforth Lounge on the
main floor. I'm going to try to reserve the space tomorrow, so the meeting
site/time is subject to change.
I look forward to seeing all of you there!!

P.S.
E-mail me if you have any questions. I'll also be bringing the Club t-shirts
for people to pick up or buy ($15 each).

I have a meeting scheduled at 4:30 with Dean Rollins and may be running a little late for the meeting but still wish to participate in club tennis for the rest of the semester and into summer. See you on Friday.

Please. I'll bet you still be recovering from a hangover on Sunday.

There will be no club tennis practice tomorrow (Tuesday) since we're
just getting back from spring break and I'm sure everyone is still
getting over their hangover (unless you're like me, and spent all
break in the computer lab). We will be practicing Sunday 12-2, and
also look for an e-mail soon about a mandatory meeting.
Chuck
We will be having a mandatory meeting for all those interested in participating in our spring season (whether that's just coming out for fun or competing) immediately after Spring Break. I will let you know more information as the time gets nearer, but please keep in mind this will be a mandatory meeting.
Talked to Ilija last night. I think I'm going to put down Ilija, Jeff, you and my name on the team roster and Kate as our coach. If Kate doesn't want to go if she's not playing, which is most likely the case, then we just won't have a coach! How's the budget request looking? Let me know if you found a female player. Thanks for all your help despite your busy schedule. I think this will work out somehow!!
Due to some fine print with tournament regulations we have a minor issue regarding the team being sent to Nationals. If you are available to play in the tournament on March 10th in San Diego please e-mail me personally (bsoberma@...) or call me (865-406-1958). I would like to have a maximum of two female players who did not play on the winning team go to San Diego. The decision to put you on the team will be completely at my discretion in order to reduce the possible number of complaints/conflicts.
It is absolutely imperative that we have at least one female player step up and participate. This is a wonderful opportunity to travel with the team, play some great tennis, and see San Diego. I don't have all the details of the trip yet (cost, hotel, transportation, etc.) but I must know if you are interested and that there is a strong possibility for you to go.
All Members:
If you know a female player who may/may not be getting these e-mails but could play in San Diego I would greatly appreciate it if you told them to contact me! This is a huge opportunity for the club team and I'd hate to see it fall through the cracks.
For those who don't know we won the Missouri Valley Sectional Championship this past weekend!!!! We've got a team automatically entered in the National Tournament held in San Diego on March 10. Thanks so much to everyone who played and helped out with the tournament. This is a great start for our season this Spring.
Hey folks,
The Club Tennis website has been redesigned and is up and running.
Soon there'll be more info about practices and other pieces of news.
Also, once there is an established ladder, the most current ladder
information will be posted there. I hope you guys appreciate the
site.
Enjoy,
Ashish Khatri
