Taekwondo how popular each sport is?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #331 of 429 |
As was widely reported, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
recently decreased the number of sports that will participate in the
next Summer Olympic Games. In addition, the IOC continues to evaluate

each current Olympic sport for inclusion in future games. That is,
taekwondo's status as a future Olympic sport is not guaranteed.

One factor involved in the IOC's decision-making process is the ease
of viewability of the sport, i.e., how popular each sport is with the

international sports-viewing public. There is keen competition among
the Olympic sports for these viewers. Therefore, in a proactive
attempt to deal with this factor, the WTF wants to address the
question of how to make Olympic taekwondo competition more spectator
friendly.I have been asked to present a paper entitled "The Dynamics
of Spectator Engagement in Taekwondo Competition" at the Beijing
symposium. I request your ideas on this subject. As taekwondo
practitioners, athletes, referees, coaches, and family and friends of
taekwondo practitioners, each of you have probably developed opinions
about taekwondo competition and how it might be improved for
spectators. This is a chance to have your ideas heard by a large
audience. Please consider sharing your ideas with me. If you have
friends who are not taekwondo practitioners, especially those who do
not understand our sport, please ask for their ideas also.
