WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE 2007
Reality meets Fantasy
The third season of the World Interclub League(WIL) tees off over the
first weekend of August and brings many new innovations as the
competition reaches out and touches an online fantasy world.
WIL, as it is commonly known, is one of the more unique sporting
competitions in the world with teams and players around the world
competing against each other in the sport of Pitch and Putt from their
own courses.
This year sees the introduction of a new division - a fantasy division
- which will feature "fantasy" teams representing major cities of the
world added to the competition, comprising players scores randomly
selected each month from the other "real" teams.
But the major innovation of the season will see the inclusion of a
team from the worlds most popular online fantasy world, Second Life.
With over 7 million residents, Second Life represents a significant
market with major corporations worldwide rushing to take up residency
in the fantasy world.
So when the World Interclub League tees off in August, not only will
players around the world play at their local course, but so too will a
team of players in the online world of Second Life take part, playing
on a shortened down version of the Holly Kai golf course inside Second
Life, suffering the same joys and frustrations as players in the real
world as they miss their putts and mis hit their tee shots. For one
weekend of each month, the World Interclub League will bring the real
world and fantasy world together in sport, a remarkable innovation.
To celebrate this unique development, a promotional video has been
prepared and can be downloaded from the WIL website at
