After a bit more thought, the only examples I (and the good wife) could
remember were ...

Jimmy Maher after Qld won the Sheffield Shield for the first time,
describing his drinking in a poor way (Aboriginal reference).

Darren Lehman saying something about someone (or team) that saw him
suspended for a few one day games.

Other than that I'm drawing a blank on any Australians.

C'mon folks, it must stick out in someone's memory quite well; especially
Sri Lankan's I would think.

Cheers

Many an Australia does the same each summer. Watch the game on Ch9 with the
ABC radio turned up.

Not only does it eliminate the inane rantings of various commentators on the
tv, but it brings the game alive through mostly sensible discussion with
good humoured banter on occasion. I think the key difference is the tv is
trying to make it something it isn't so folks watch and therefore watch the
advertising. Whereas the radio, commercial free, knows that folks are
genuinely keen to hear cricket.

Long before the modern world took over with everything now happening all day
every day, it was a real pleasure to walk outside and hear the cricket
echoing across many back yards as everyone was home, and everyone was tuned
into the radio.

Cheers
Christopher

I don't watch it because I refuse to give Murdock any more money than I have
to. However we do have TMS (Test Match Special) broadcasting on the radio.
They are celebrating 50s years of cricket coverage and it's truly excellent.
Even when I have it on domestic Free to Air TV, I'll often tune my radio in
and turn the telly volume down. The good news is that it's available online.

Hi Ho All,

Cracker of an innings by Pietersen, and a great return to Test cricket for
Vaughan. Would have been nice to see it.

Pay tv advertises that they will show it, then don't! Go figure.

Cheers
Christopher

I was talking to a co-worker today about cricket. Which lead to Queensland
(and how brilliant they are!) which lead to famous Queenslanders (co-worker
is new to both Queensland and Australia), which lead to many names,
including Matt Hayden.

He said, "I agree, he's a great batsman and all that, but I don't like him
because he is racist." I questioned this. And he seemed convinced that Matt
Hayden at some point in the past called various Sri-Lankans 'monkeys' or
'ape like' or some such thing.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Cheers
Christopher

Great innings from Vaughan in only his 2nd test since the Oval. In the
spotlight, his place under severe scrutiny and he answered his critics
emphatically.

Unforutnaly this match again looks like it'll be a draw due to the weather
whcih is set to get very bad over the next few days.

Hi Ho All,

Cracker of an innings by Pietersen, and a great return to Test cricket for
Vaughan. Would have been nice to see it.

Pay tv advertises that they will show it, then don't! Go figure.

Hi Ho All,

The one positive (other than the glorious efforts of Hayden) I took form the
WC ending was this sudden urge to watch cricket ... which ironically I
hadn't had the whole time the finals were on.

A quick glance at the tv tells me two things ...

ABC2 is showing highlights packages of various Ashes tours of Australia
(56-71 kind of era ... when the ABC had the tv rights). But on at a bad time
for me ... oh well.

England are hosting the West Indies starting Thursday. Play starts at 7.30pm
my time, so I can see a bit fri/sat nights, and full replays the following
days. Never-the-less, I'm keen. A few new faces and two teams that feel they
could have done so much better at the Cup.

I see folks are excited about Trescothic finding some form, and hoepfully
his head. Whether they pick him sooner or later will be another interesting
thing to watch unfold. I know I'd be tempted, but I know little of who is on
offer as possible openers.

I hope our Pommie mates at least are up for a chat.

Cheers
Christopher

Hi Ho All,

I couldn't agree more. A glorious end for all the wrong reasons. For what
has easily been the best example of how pointless ODI's, the World Cup,
Champs Trophy etc are, the final just sealed it.

The only thing that dissappointed me was that Sri Lanka didn't concede
defeat. That would have been perfect. (not that they deserve the egg so
rightly earnt by Martin Crowe).

Even better would have been the decision to come back the next day for three
overs, send everyone home, and then realise they didn't have to.
Presentations at 9am to the cleaners ... now that would have been brilliant.

A huge congratulations to Sri Lanka for coming second ... which was easily
the only thing to worry about; who would lose to Australia.

A thorough thrashing and a farcical end ... it would be like an 8-0 victory
in the football, with a penalty shoot out for the fun of it.

Congrats Matt Hayden on letting me at least enjoy one thing.

Blessed Be Bob, to you and yours.

Cheers
Christopher

I read somewhere Australia had three goals for the
2006/2007 season - win the ICC Champions Trophy,
regain the Ashes, win the World Cup. The Commonwealth
Bank and Chappell-Hadlee Series did not figure into
their plans.

It is the old guys who have dominated this tournament
- Gilchrist in the finals, Hayden, Ponting, Hogg, and
of course the peerless McGrath.

Although the likes of Tait and Clarke also played a
significant role.

A victory for the old guard.
