I think I'm glad Mark WASN'T in the side.... at least he wasn't humiliated
by that first innings debacle.

Hi everyone, I am so looking forward to the Aussies crushing the poms once
and for all! Well, I must say that I am not happy with the cricket365
website, who have said "how can Australia be the greatest side when they
slip up against a county side"...whoever wrote this is a twit considering
the Australian team was not even at full strength, there was NO Ricking
Ponting, Mark Waugh, Adam Gilchrist or Glenn McGrath!!!
That is my spew for today everyone.

Well the 3rd Ashes test match starts this Thursday Australian time
about 7.30 EST. It should be good i think its pretty obvious who the
critics think is going to win and thats the aussies but i do think
that the poms may come back with a bit of a fight. I really cannot
see them beating this current Australian side though. When you look
at how the two sides have been performing in the last 2 tests the
aussies have more players who are willing to put in. when you look at
the last two test matche scores heres the two compared. The aussies
have scored 245,104 and 576 at an avg. of 308.33 per inning and
england have scored 196,108,294,164 at an avg. of 190.5 per inning.
As you can see there is quite a difference in these stats. i would
much rather be in australias position going into the 3rd test. Just
to cap it up i think the aussies will have a pretty easy win again
but the poms could and should fight a bit harder!!!

News Release Date: 26/07/01
You've been asking us for this list for a long time, and we have been slow
publish it. What finally spurred us on was a story this morning that
Wisden.com have devised a 'new' rating system to rank the greatest
individual performances. The new system sounds very like our own, so we are
curious to know how it compares.
For the record, here is our all-time top ten list (based on the formula
we've had in place since 1987):
TEST INNINGS THAT SCORED THE MOST PwC POINTS (ALL-TIME)
1 Bradman 270 v England at Melbourne, 1937
2 Gooch 154* v W.Indies at Headingley, 1991
3 Sobers 365* v Pakistan at Kingston, 1958
4 Bradman 299* v S.Africa at Adelaide, 1932
5 Lara 213 v Australia at Kingston, 1999
6 Harvey 167 v England at Melbourne, 1958
7 Ponsford 266 v Australia at The Oval, 1934
8 Saeed Anwar 188* v India at Calcutta, 1999
9 Hammond 291 v Australia at Sydney, 1936
10 Hutton 364 v Australia at The Oval, 1938
And here is our list for the top ten innings in the last decade:
TOP TEN PwC TEST INNINGS SINCE 1991
1 Graham Gooch 154* v WI, Headingley, 1991
2 Brian Lara 213 v Aus, Kingston, 1999
3 Saeed Anwar 188* v Ind, Calcutta, 1999
4 V.V.S. Laxman 281 v Aus, Calcutta 2001
5 Brian Lara 153* v Aus, Bridgetown 1999
6 Desmond Haynes 143* v Pak, Port of Spain, 1993
7 Brian Lara 182 v Aus, Adelaide 2001
8 Nasser Hussain 207 v Aus, Birmingham 1997
9 Bryan Young 267* v SL, Dunedin 1997
10 Brian Lara 375 v Eng, St John's 1994
Obviously it pays to be called Brian or to be up against the Australians :
-)
It also helps to score a lot of runs, but the PwC Ratings look at every
performance and adjust it to take into account:
- the ratings of the opposition in the match (so if Hadlee bowled half the
overs and was at the top of his form, the opposition quality rates very
highly)
- the level of run scoring in each innings of the match (big innings in low
scoring games count for more)
- the final result of the game (there's a small bonus for doing well in a
victory)
It's worth taking a look at the scorecards of the matches listed above to
see why the PwC formula has rated these performances so highly.
There are some adjustments we don't make. We don't take account of dropped
catches for example - partly because the information isn't reliably stored
in the records, and also because you have to stop somewhere. (What about
quality of strokes, the player's personal circumstances and so on? At some
point statistics stop and human judgment begins, and we understand the
limitations of statistical ratings.)
BOWLING
We don't currently have an equivalent listing for bowling, because in the
Test ratings we don't convert bowling performanes into a single value.
(Since you ask, we convert a bowling performance into two values - adjusted
wickets and adjusted runs conceded). To rank individual bowling
performances, we will have to invent a scoring system that compares figures
of, say, 10 for 100 with 15 for 200. As and when we do this, we suspect
that the best match performance of all time will be between Michael Holding
and Jim Laker.

also be privileged. If you are not the named recipient, please notify the
sender immediately and do not disclose the contents to another person, use
it for any purpose, or store or copy the information in any medium.
NO BINDING EFFECT. No agreements, amendments or commitments of any kind,
express or implied, whether made by email, telephone, live meeting or
otherwise, and no statements made by author of this message or any employee
of Xavor Corporation, of any nature whatsoever are binding upon Xavor, its
customers, contractors or agents, unless set forth in written document and
executed by the valid signatures of authorized personnel of all parties
thereto. With respect to any Customer Project, no statements made by the

the nos. given are not no. of tests but the no. of series and their
results.

Jesse,
I think India are an excellent cricket team in their own country, but they
struggle elsewhere. That's why they are so low on the points table.
But I agree, they are better than 7th!!
