Hi Ladies,
I will be conducting the tri training for this May 20th program. This training is also perfect for the June 3rd Mermaid triathlon (all women - go ladies!), and the Tri for Fun #1 on June 20th. Let me know if you would like more info on those - I will most likely extend training after the Uvas tri to encorporate these 2 other tris. This is a rather long email to ensure I get all the details down for you!
Let me say right away that if you have any women friends (they do not have to be moms!) that are interested - please please share this info with them. I will offer a $10 discount off your price for each friend you recruit up to $50!
CAN I REALLY DO THIS?
For those of you that are on the fence wondering let me assure you that my specialty is taking beginners and training them for a race such as this. I absolutely know that I can train any of you for this race if you come with a can do it attitude and a commitment to train at least 5-8 hours a week (what you would be doing anyways for your workouts).
We still have 9 weeks yes 9 weeks before my training begins. If you started in 1.5 weeks (giving you 8 weeks to gear up) with the small suggestions I make below
I bet you anything you will feel more than ready for the training on March 14th.
1) Find a buddy (girlfriend, husband, whomever). It is a proven fact that if you have support for working out you will reach your goals. Even if you can't meet together for the workouts keep each other accountable daily!
2) Find a pool: If swimming is your weak link I suggest getting into a session of swim lessons. You can take them at an indoor pool in
Betty Wright: http://www.c-a-r.org/openswim.html ( I would call)
Mountain View pools and Masters programs: http://www.ci.mtnview.ca.us/city_hall/comm_services/recreation_programs_and_services/aquatics/default.asp
Santa Clara Club: http://www.santaclaraswimclub.org/
3) Get on a bike: This could be at the gym in the form of a spin class or a stationary bike or on your own bike. I would suggest just 1x a week or more if you have the time. Just easy 30-45 min rides, with easy rolling hills at the most. Remember this is just a gearing up period. If you need a bike, try: asking friends/family to borrow one; look at renting different types to decide which one is for you (hybrid or road); ook on craig's list and ebay for GREAT deals - and just ask around.
4) Try your running legs: Keep in mind you don't have to run the last leg of the triathlon
but my suggestion is to at least do a combo J. Here is a great running plan for ANYONE to follow for the next 8 weeks. This will get you up to over half of the run that the race has: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
That's not so bad huh? Anyone can do this trust me!

Details about the practice:
* 1st practice March 14th (hopefully would have an info/shopping night again at Sports basement the week before!)
* practices on Wed from 7-8pm and Sat am from 8-10:30 or so (and probably a little longer as we get closer to race day)
* we would do one practice tri before the race so you get to work on transitions
* you would need a bike and a trainer - just because we won't be able to get out on the road for a while... Here is an example of one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AAYC72/sz-category363-20/ref=nosim/104-1813997-4723143 I am currently trying to find out more about brand, price and if we can get a discount.
* I will send out weekly workouts to keep you going on your own. To do a sprint triathlon you need to train about 5-8 hours a week. I always encourage my ladies to meet up for these extra workouts because you have a better chance of doing them with a buddy!
* Cost will be some where between $150-$200 for the 10 weeks (roughly 40 hours of group training, email workouts, race nutrition, etc.) - depends on the number of ladies we have join us!
INFO/SHOPPING NIGHT @ SPORTS BASEMENT
This is a night where you can come get your questions answered in person, see a training calendar and meet other ladies that have participated in triathlons before. You also get a nice discount for any shopping you do that night a good time to stock up on your tri gear! I am still trying to secure this date and time but it will most likely be between March 8-11th.
That is it for now!
Please, please let me know if you have any questions. I am here to help!
Blessings,
Holli
