St. Louis, MO, July 3, 2002 – Senior Vice President and General
Manager Larry Pleau announced today that the club has signed center
Petr Cajanek. As per club policy, terms of the deal are not
disclosed.
Cajanek, 26, was named MVP of the Czech Republic Extraleague,
finishing second overall in scoring with 64 points (20 goals, 44
assists), appearing in 49 contests for the HC Barum Continental
Zlin. The 5-11, 180-pound forward, finished second in the league in
assists (44) and ranked seventh overall with 20 goals. Cajanek also
ranked second on the club in scoring during the playoffs, recording
12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 11 post-season matches.
Cajanek was named MVP of the Baltic Tournament in Moscow this past
December and was the only member of the Czech Olympic team without
NHL experience. The Czech Republic native has appeared in 283 career
contests with Zlin, registering 273 points (100 goals, 173 assists),
along with 489 penalty minutes. Cajanek was St. Louis' eighth round
selection, 253rd overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.
