Hi! My name is Geanie Jaffe and I wrestled in high school and I was going
to wrestle in college just not this semester. I have read your responses
to the others suggestions. I agree with someone else's suggestion, you
should join a club team. Also since you went to a private school you
really can't do anything with Titl IX but you can possible threaten a
suit for discrimination or you could just leave the school. In actuality
they are commiting sexual discrimination which is not allowed in the
US period. So if you want to I suggest reading the contract between your
parents and the school and see if they have a sexual discrimination clause
and if they do make sure you take that to them and say that you feel
discriminated against. This may help you out it may not make it possible
for you to wrestle the boys but they may start a girl's team and that
is what I was on. Sometimes though it is very hard to start a girl's
team and also before you start make sure that you have the willingness
to give it your full attention. I am not discouraging you at all but
wrestling is a very intense sport and you have to be willing to basically
give up your life during season, and if you are willing to do it, I say
go for it, but if you have any doubt about doing it, then stop and think
about it a little more. If you start something and then quit you didn't
accomplish anything. But I hope that you get to wrestle and good luck!!!
Keep your chin up and keep me posted.
Geanie Jaffe
