Hi! I'm a thirteen year old girl in Pennsylvania, and I'm interested in
joining my school wrestling team, which was open to girls. So, here's the
deal.
A few years ago, one of the girls on the team broke her back wrestling a
boy. Her parents sued the school. The school decided that the girls already
in the program (all three of them) would still be allowed to be on the team,
but no new girls could join. Now, I think this is extremely unfair.
Why? Because if wrestling in a dangerous sport for girls, it's a dangerous
sport for boys. While it isn't safe for boys and girls to wrestle (at least,
not once they get a little older) there's another girl who wants to join the
team who is almost the same weight as me. I could practice with her, if they
wouldn't let me wrestle boys. I wouldn't be bummed out, commit suicide,
etc., if I couldn't wrestle in meets. So, I think it's unfair.
Any thoughts, criticisms, etc. are welcome, and I thank you in advance for
reading this.
Thanks again,
