Whitdove is looking for a lady. While surfing I noticed a
lot of women shooting sites. Most have more male
members than female. This mirrors my experience in the
shooting sports in general (actually all sports) much
effort in courting female participation yeilds precious
little results. I am not sure as to the reason for this
as I remember the top shooter on my Jr. Rifle team
was a girl who regularly outshoot the boys on the
team. I know a coach at our local high school, he says
they are bending over backwards to get the girls
involved in sports due to pressure from Washington DC for
"equal access". He tells me that the ratio at this
particular school is 25 to 1. The boys just show up for try
outs, where the girls have to be coaxed. Shooting is
one of the sports where women can go head to head
with the men (due to better fine motor control they
actually have a slight advantage) and yet it is rare that
they do. Not sure how to address this issue or even if
it is worth the effort. Maybe some of the women that
check in here can enlighten a neanderthal?
