I'm like you, l've been away also; Unfortunately
l was in town,if you can call it that. I live in a
place called Deddington which has about 10 residents in
what is classed as "Town" and about 100 people in the
surrounding farms. For me Town is Launceston which is abot 25
miles away and as the 2nd biggest town in Tasmania has
about 70,000 residents. (For those checking on a map
Launceston is in the North of the State. As l know a lot of
Americans come to Tassie for Penny Farthing races each
March they'd know of Evandale which is adjacent to
Deddington. We also butt up against Launceston Airport.)
Whats been happening over your way, l usually watch the
Jim Lehrer News Hour to keep up to date but haven't
seen it for about 3 weeks (Its deer season here and
that means lots of hiking and no time to watch TV.) I
was saddened to hear just 1/2 hour ago of another
school shooting, this time in California. What the hell
do we do to stop this. To my mind and what l read
there were far more people, including kids, per head of
population carrying guns as little as 20 years ago
and
yet these incidents didn't happen then. In Australia
we had a army cadet corp. going at nearly every
school in the country and all the kids in it use to take
home their military guns (Usually bolt action .303s)
and we didn't have shootings. It wasn't uncommon to
get on a train or tram between 3 and 4 PM and have 20
or 30 boys and girls with rifles slung across their
backs. Nowadays if a person is even seen walking in
their front yard with a gun they mobilise every copper
they could find and call out the special ops group;
God knows what would happen if someone went to get on
a train now with a gun. Its sad that society has
gone down this path and no longer trusts each other.
Thankfully all the shooters l know and the ones l'm now in
personal touch with after talking on the net give me hope
that there are still a lot of good peopole out there.
Lets hope the rest of the world catches up with us and
goes back to trusting one and other.
Enough of my
sermon, I'm heading of to get a couple of hours kip
before going out hunting again. Catch you all later.
Regards Dave.
PS. Pistol Packin Mama, I've posted
your package, you should get it by mid next week.
