Boy, it's crazy how true all of this is. I'm a former player of the
Storm (Okay we ONLY made it thru a few games without quitting on
Nance.) The sad thing is, this upcoming 2009 season she still will
have a team. It's sad that there are so many women in the area that
are A.) Not aware of Women's Football in the area and B.) So unaware of
Nance's failures. When is she going to get the hint? Why is she still
in the NWFA or an owner at all? I can't help but think of those poor
women playing for the Storm this year that don't have a clue as to what
they are getting themselves into.

Hi Heidi!

I remember watching you. :) You're quite the versatile player!
That is a huge asset to any team.

I'm glad you found a new home with the Fox. I've gotten some other
details from Cherynl 'turtle' Patton. I'm glad that a handful of
former Dream players are still living out their dreams.

I'm incredibly sad that the Dream has folded. It was the first team
in the NWFA and I was so deliriously happy to be making my football
playing dreams come true during their first season - 2001. I
practiced with them as they prepped for the 2002 season but decided
not to play because of an ankle reconstruction and (unfortunately)
pulmonary problems. Let me just say that trainer Donna was a huge
asset to me (and my lungs) the season I did play. God gave me that
season. It was truly a life-long dream come true.

I surely appreciate your generous offer of season tickets, Heidi.
I'm so touched! I would love to see all of you play and I know I
told Turtle (via MySpace) that I would come to a game. I need to own
up to that, but I'll do it on my on steam. So, please keep me posted
on schedules and I will keep looking at the web site.

I still have dreams about playing, but now that it's been 7 years and
I'm 42, the body just doesn't keep up with the youth of the mind.
LOL I know Ahndi (Andy) and Cheetah can tell you about that over 40
thing. I sure enjoyed having them as teammates (and Alice Burress).

Have you ever seen the team pics from the Inaugural Season? Here is
a link where I have them posted:
http://www.geocitie s.com/tenkatrock s/football. htm
The info there is about 5 yrs outdated (I was still seriously
thinking about playing again).

I look forward to keeping in touch with you, Heidi!

Kindest Regards,
Katie "Slamm" Stamm

Subject: More info on IWFL and USA Football Partnership
fbirdimages
Online Now Online Now
Send Email Send Email

Football at the women's and girls' level received a tremendous boost
this week with the announcement that the Independent Women's Football
League (IWFL) and USA Football have formed a partnership.

The partnership will allow for extensive growth for women and girls
playing football, a division of the sport that has seen exponential
growth over the past decade.

"We really like the philosophy of what USA Football is doing in
trying to standardize the youth football market in terms of education
for coaches and officials," said Laurie Frederick, CEO of the
IWFL. "We want to make sure girls' football is standardized from the
beginning."

What does the partnership mean for the IWFL? First, the IWFL has
agreed to mandate that all coaches in the league participate in the
USA Football Certified Coaching Education Program (CCEP). Also, all
officials in the league will join the USA Football Certified
Officiating Education Program (COEP). In addition, both organizations
will partner together to assist with camps, leagues and events, and
provide equipment, jerseys or items for raffling, such as autographed
merchandise.

"We're tremendously excited about our partnership with USA Football,"
Frederick said. "It will help take girls' and women's football to the
next level, so it's exciting for everyone."

Furthermore, USA Football will designate the IWFL as the exclusive
provider of women athletes for USA Football's Senior National Teams
at both the flag and tackle levels. Team USA will represent USA
Football during international events and competitions. The IWFL will
select the most appropriate women for Team USA in each event and
provide a women's coordinator.

"We're extremely pleased and proud to partner with the IWFL," said
USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck. "Football's appeal
is universal. Its values and excitement resonates with women and men,
boys and girls. We look forward to a strong relationship with the
IWFL for the betterment of the sport and our U.S. women's national
team program."

As the national governing body of football at the youth and amateur
levels in the U.S., USA Football reaches all corners of the gridiron
landscape.

"USA Football has such a large outreach - it's going to be great to
partner with an organization that has such a great reputation and has
done so much for football," said Andra Douglas, president and founder
of the IWFL's New York Sharks. "I think we're a good complement to
each other, and it combines two great names. I can't wait to see what
the two of us can do together."

Douglas, who last month donated a Sharks jersey to the Sports Museum
of America in New York City, believes the future of women's football
is one filled with promise.

"I think we'll grow to be as strong as the WNBA," said Douglas, who
also played quarterback for the Sharks. "To start with getting flag
football in high schools, once girls become aware of it and know they
can join their girls' high school flag football teams, they'll do it.

"Once that becomes available, I think people will realize that girls
have always wanted to play football; they've just never had the
opportunity. What's the saying - `Build it and they will come.'
They'll come."

The partnership with USA Football was also done to enhance the
playing level on the field.

"One of the things we've been focusing on since the league's
foundation is the quality of the game and the experience of the
players," said Frederick, a founding member of the league that was
formed in 2000. "By partnering with USA Football, we'll have a
standardized level of education for coaches and officials. The tools
that are available through USA Football are only going to contribute
to that even more."

The partnership's reach will extend far beyond the girls' and women's
games. Ninety-seven percent of officials in the IWFL also officiate
youth games, and 67 percent of IWFL officials are also officials at
either the high school or college level.

The IWFL season runs from April through July, affording local
football officials to hone their skills in the traditional offseason.
In addition, coaches in the IWFL are often plucked from the rosters
of local high school football coaching staffs. Requiring USA Football
certification from IWFL coaches and officials will trickle down to
the local high school and youth levels.

"We're very proud to drive that quality and standardization home,"
Frederick said. "Many of the coaches and officials may already have
been USA Football certified, but this will bring reinforcement at our
level. Players are all going to be learning by the same standards."

In further consideration of the development and foundation of girls
football in the U.S., USA Football and the IWFL will collaborate to
ensure the success of the IWFL J League, or Junior League.

"We're looking to establish the league in 2009, with planning and
research and development," Frederick said.

For Douglas, exploring the possibilities of what the partnership
could mean to girls football is also important. Again this season,
Douglas will spearhead the NFL's Junior Player Development camp at
Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Last year, 150 girls from ages 13-17
participated in the only event of its kind in the country. The clinic
returns Feb. 7-8, 2009.

"I can't wait. It gives me chills to think about the partnership,"
Douglas said. "It's fun to see this finally, finally happening."

With USA Football's expanding footprint at the youth level, girls
will also now be targeted as players of America's favorite sport.

"It gives a stamp of approval from the outside world," Douglas
said. "We have a wonderful organization, but to have someone like USA
Football give their stamp will open up a lot of eyes, and hopefully a
lot of doors.

"We want to see the sport grow, and our hearts are in the right
place," Douglas continued. We want to get the word out. It's not just
about our football teams in the league, but girls growing up who
might play on teams someday."

Both groups will work toward eliminating the fear factor that
accompanies the physical nature of the sport.

"A lot of parents are scared to death to let their girls play
football," Douglas said. "We're focused on safety. It's not as
dangerous as people think, and certainly girls are as tough as boys.
We just have to dispel the myths.

"Sure, there's a danger, as much as in soccer or basketball or
hockey. Dispelling the myths is another high priority that will bring
more girls to participate."

Some girls will pounce on the opportunity to play football. Frederick
grew up playing with her dad, relatives and friends in the backyard
on weekends. When she settled in Austin, Texas, she found other women
with a similar background - and an equal affinity for the sport.

"In the very beginning, it was simple - we just wanted to play
football, and there were no opportunities out there," said Frederick,
a database administrator who owns a consulting business. "A group of
us decided to put a team together in Austin, and we found other women
doing the same thing in Oregon, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"We went from four teams the first year to eight teams the second,
then to 12 and 20. Now we have 45 teams. In 2008, we established a
multi-tier level of play for major and minor markets. With that in
place, the growth potential is quite large. It's incalculable the
number of women who would like to play pro football."

Their prospects just improved with the IWFL and USA Football
partnership.

Check out the IWFL at iwflsports.com.

Here is
a link where I have them posted:
http://www.geocities.com/tenkatrocks/football.htm
The info there is about 5 yrs outdated (I was still seriously
thinking about playing again).

I look forward to keeping in touch with you, Heidi!

Kindest Regards,

Hi Heidi!

I remember watching you. You're quite a versatile player. I'm glad
that you and a few others found a home with the Fox. Turtle Patton
filled me in a little more. It breaks my heart of course since the
Dream were THE FIRST team in the NWFA.

I rather be back on the field than in the stands. LOL But my hopes of
playing again - after a 7 yr absence - are rather unrealistic. I know
Cheetah and Ahndi (Andy) would tell ya how much harder things get once
you're over 40 yrs.

I appreciate your offer of a season pass. That is SO generous of you,
Heidi. Just keep me informed of what your schedule is for next spring
and I will sit up and take notice.

In the meantime, have a great offseason. Take good care of yourself.
Feel free to email me anytime at tenkat99@....

Blessings,

In June, I played with a few of old Dream players (Played for the KC
Storm in the 2008 season. Storm folded but went to Memphis and played
with some Dream and Belles players). Anyway, I heard it was due to
money issuses and something with the owner.

I went and signed up on the womenstacklefootbal lgroup.ning. com. This
is a great site, we finally get to put names with faces and faces with
names. Lots of networking can be done on this site, players, coaches,
owners, and the fans. I am happy to see that there is one place where
all can go to talk about women's football. The site has places to put
up events, forums to talk, videos can be put on the site for
instructions and promotions. Hope to see you all on the site. Great
Job Coach!!!

This is from the www.womenstacklefootballgroup.ning.com board: "As of
October 1st, the IWFL and the Showgirlz are going different ways.
Today we got our notice that our 2009 License will not be renewed. The
league will not let us go into further details, but you guys are a
smart group, you can figure it out. WE WILL BE BACK IN 2009, BIGGER
AND BETTER THEN EVER!!! In all repect to women's football we will
still keep all league's on this site. Good Luck to those that are
still there playing". Wow, who was that that said that the showgirlz
was out of the league about 2 months ago??? I got to find that email,
If that was the case back then, why would the league hold them up
until now to let them know??? I'm guessing to use them as a tool to
help get other WPFL teams into the league first and then let them
go!!! I must say that this is a sad day for the West......So where do
the go, any bets NWFA or the new WFA??? We will see.

How many players are going to Vegas for the Camp? I still hear that
the Coaches and Management of the teams are getting pressure not to
go. What's up with the IWFL All-Star Weekend, how many of you are
going to this? Is it really happening? Haven't heard much on it.
Looks like great off-season programs for women's football, but are the
players, teams, coaches, management, owners, and leagues going to take
the steps to make sure that they are successful, because if these
events fail, it will hurt women's football. But if they are
successful, it will take women's football to a new level of respect
that this is a real game that the women are playing. We must take our
craft seriously so that others will take us serious. So make sure you
go out to the events and get better at what you do!!! The knock on
women's sports is that women don't support women's sports.

Nothing But LOVE!!!

Maybe your writers should do their homework before publishing an

article. The Storm has forfeited their last two games, while the KC

Tribe (formed from disgruntled former Storm players) is alive and

well and playing it's final home game this weekend at Bishop Miege

H.S.

I have been to see both the KC Tribe and the KC Storm play and I do

have to say that the Tribe is the team to follow.

The real fact is that this article doesn't paint the real picture. I

have followed women's football in KC for 6 years. The KC Storm in 07

lost about 95% of their players to the Tribe and their entire

coaching staff. In 08 the Storm started from scratch and after one

game the Storm lost the entire new team to the tribe and the 2nd

coaching staff walked away. All of this was due to an extremely poor

ownership. Players were lied to and deliverables were not delivered.

Those are the facts. And based on those facts, my opinion is that the

Tribe represents KC in Women's football.

Love this quote - "On defense, obviously, it?s the sack,? she said. ?

get a lot of satisfaction out of opening the hole and seeing that my

(running) back got through.? - If anyone's seen Wernes play, she's

never gotten close to a sack and she's NEVER opened a hole for her

running back. She shouldn't even be on the field, she sucks as a

player and she's just as bad as an owner. She keeps replacing coaches

because they try to bench her un-athletic a$$. The Storm is old news,

Hey, the funny thing is that Nance was talking all this "smack" on

Linda Pankey and Cheryl Fields, former owners. We believed all of

this hype! But when Cheryl Fields was the owner, we WON games!

(Cheryl Fields was NOT perfect, but she worked the crowd, was a good

speaker, and kept us fired up!). Linda Pankey was not a terribly bad

owner, she needed some more business classes and she could not work

the crowd like Cheryl Fields. Nance is NOTHING but a bunch of talk.

She is so professional to put down the other owners when she can't

produce a darn thing!!! Case and point, she talked about how she

would not CHARGE players money or how there would be no "MANDATORY"

fundraisers, well........ .. EVERYTHING NANCE has said is about "we

ain't got the money", "it takes money to run a team", blah, blah,

blah. BUT when Cheryl or Linda said these things you know what Nance

said with her untellingent self?-----"Cheryl and Linda should get

sponsorships and quit MILKING the players!" Uh...I think she [Nance]

is MILKING the players, whether you call it DONATIONS, IN-KIND GIFTS,

etc. it is still FUNDRAISING and she is asking the players to help.

Stephaine Campbell (Micheal--had a sex change to female!!!) is a good

friend of Nance, do not believe the e-mails she sends out. Mindy

White can not be that important that Nance needs to address it in

public----UNLESS there are some guilty feelings? Coach Ed promised

money and it did not work out, why didn't Nance have a back up plan?

She [Nance] was always talking about how the previous owners should

have done this or should have done that, now the shoe is on the other

foot and she looks like a FOOL. NO ONE TRUSTS Nance, even CM is

talking trash on Nance. Serves her right for all of her trash talking

about the other owners and she can't even do any better, in fact she

made herself look worse! Hey owners spend their OWN money, get real

Nance! Nance has lasted about two seconds in terms of crediability,

intergity, and it is so funny, her and Coach Ed were so close and

talking bad about Coach Mack, now the picture has changed! This is so

funny and Nance DESERVES everything that is coming her way. I wished

I had the e-mails of the former players, coaches, and owners, they

would probably be laughing with their hands over their mouths! LOL!

On the serious tip it is so sad. Nance is nothing more than a modern

day "pimp" and Catherine Masters, the CEO of the NWFA, will probably

remove Nance. CM/Catherine Maters, is actually a very nice lady who

is trying to have a decent league, if enough of you write to CM, she

will remove Nance, like she did Linda Pankey. From what the players

were told Cheryl Fields sold the team to Linda Pankey and Coach

Mack/Ed, due to some sort of health thing????

Nance is non-profit organization, could she be "skimming" off the top

as rumors have stated?

Nance has a terrible record, blow outs, scores with ZERO! Why doesn't

this woman hang it up?

Also Nance lied she is NOT the first person to bring women's football

to Kansas City (do your research)!! Cheryl Fields, a black woman,

brought the first license and the team started in 2001. Unlike Nance,

Cheryl Fields, did not have a team prior to "COPY" from or get advice

from. I ain't a Cheryl Fields or Linda Pankey fan, don't get me

wrong, but Nance has made some condescending statements that she

should be ashamed of, since she is WROST that ANY owner in women's

football history!

Why would Nance post that "discliamer" on the Kansas City Storm

website? It's like Nance is trying to PROVE her INNOCENCE!?? !?!?

Silly, silly, silly!

Just my opinion as a player on both teams.

Nance has to feel like a FOOL! he-he! LOL!

*Guess my player number? Smile!

Get some advice from OKC. Y'all should have brought Coach Mack on the

team, he was excellent and fought for the players! Go Coach Mack!

***Send this to Coach Mack, if y'all got his e-mail address! Coach

Mack will probably laugh that belly laugh of his.

Let's stop sending evil e-mails about Nance, the word is out and she

is pretty much done.
