The "arizona reporter" ran a story this past
saturday about the arizona(phoenix)caliente officially
signing with the WAFL. The article also contained some
additional tidbits, including other potential league cities
and tryout info and dates for the following cities:
Las Vegas, San Francisco and Daytona Beach. To read
the article click the link below.

I checked their new web site(not the austin
outlaws site but the iwfl site)and the only new
information i found was it listed the charter cities for the
new league. Those cities include Austin, Tulsa,
Oklahoma City, Memphis, Eugene and North Carolina. On the
Austin Outlaws site, I saw where their first exhibition
game is slated for April 14th. I beleive we have at
least one member of this club who is affiliated with
the IWFL in some way, so hopefully she post some
additional
info.

<a href=http://www.eteamz.com/iwfl

OK OK I may not like it but it seems waffle is
going to stick as a nick name. LOL LOL So here is how I
see it we produce women of the "Grid Iron" and what
is a grid iron? an iron with grids upon it I.E. a
waffle iron. Yes we are a member of the WAFL and I enjoy
a good joke from time to time, and yes mine may be
a bit corny but oh well.
Ladys of the NWFL your
season is about to kick off so here is a word of " good
luck and have fun out there. Just a note from the
Sacramento Sirens.

I don't think the Lasers have yet been approved
of a francise. Is it me or does it seem as though
the WAFL(aka Waffle)[LOL] will be mainly based out
west. I haven't heard of any other francises except the
ones on the west coast. One of the guys running the
league said the some of the teams on the league's web
site are with the league yet, so I'm only going by
what I read in this club and Toad's club.

That is great that you have so many friends
trying out as well. I haven't played competitive
football since high school, but I have been involved in
rooler and ice hockey for about six years now. I grew up
in West Texas, where you basically live and breathe
football. I will be trying out for QB when the time comes.
We are very excited about the baby, but this is one
of those things that is on a personal goal list that
I would really like to fulfill. I have a very
strong, accurate arm and I have never had a problem
running with the guys due to my size...normally 6',
155lbs. It is great because a tall O line is no worry
where I am concerned. Who knows....maybe we can team
up.
I did speak to the Breakers and they said that they
would take a look at me as soon as I am ready. I have
been able to throw up until about a month ago....but
now the little one is just too big! HA!
Take care
and keep me posted on your status.....good luck to
you and your teammates!!!!

Personally, I'm going out for the Breakers. I've
been playing offensive line for the past five years in
a flag league (and I'm 5'10", 260#) so that's the
position I'd like to play.

The reason I'm going for
the Breakers instead of the Lasers is that a bunch of
my friends are too. I'm just sticking with my pals.
A former player on my flag team played for the
Barracudas last year, and has signed up for the Breakers
this year.

I'd love to hear more about the WAFL
(what an unfortunate acronym, everyone's gonna call it
the "waffle") and the Lasers. Haven't seen or heard
too much about them yet.

Congratulations on
your first child :-) you must be incredibly excited!
Kinda makes football seem a bit smaller in comparison.

That is kind of what I figured. I haven't signed
up for tryouts as of yet. I am trying to wait it out
a bit to see what team, Breakers (WPFL) or Lasers
(WAFL)have the best organized program. There is quite a bit
of gossip that goes on between all of the women's
football message boards regarding the different leagues
and their potential. I have spoken to a
representative from each league, and I not really partial to
either...I just feel that if I am going to put the time and
effort into a program, I expect the same in return. In
truth, I just want to play, but I don't want to be taken
for a fool either. My husband and I are expecting our
first baby early in April, so until then I am a little
side tracked. But I can't wait to get back in the
groove.

What is your take? Have you committed to either
league? If you have, can I ask what your criteria was?
What position do you play? Who would have ever thought
our lives would become so complicated.

Natalie, I haven't heard much about the Breakers
besides what's on their website. Have you signed up for
tryouts?

The press conference on 2/16 was covered by local CSB
and NBC stations. I think that Fox Sports West is
going to do a story, too. Look for more media coverage
as it gets closer to tryouts. They're trying to get
the word out, which isn't easy for a startup women's
team in a major market. :-/

You raise some ligitimate concerns. 20 to 30K
does seem a little steep, but then again, i'm not an
owner or a league president, and i'm sure they have
some valid reasons for the fee. As for it not being
feasible for the teams in the smaller cities, I have to
somewhat disagree. After all, the NWFL does have teams in
3 cities(Chattanooga, Huntsville and Pensacola)with
populations under 200,000... I think all the leagues are
genuinely committed to giving females the opportunity to
play football(no one is going to get rich, especially
in the short term IMHO), they just have different
visions/philosohies on how to acheive that end. Only time will tell
which league(s) have the correct strategy. Having said
all that, i wish you and the IWFL the best in the
upcoming season, and i hope you'll keep us all informed
about what's going on in your league(espeicially once
the season starts).

It's great to see all the teams that are popping
up across the country. The only thing that concerns
me is the majority of the leagues are charging a
franchise fee between 20 and 30 thousand dollars PLUS a
certain percentage of the ticket sales. This form of
payment is NOT feasible to the smaller cities in America
and in my opinion is not concerned with females
playing football at all. Yes I understand there is money
involved in starting a team, but isn't that what sponsors
and investors are for? The IWFL is the only one so
far who seems to be on the right track. If you create
the fan base first, the money will come later. WHEW!
ok im done venting

Thanks for joining the club. Sacremento sounds
like a very good place for a team; i know the area has
traditionally been very suportive of women's basketball. What
other cities does it look like the league will include
in the Siren's division?

Thanks for the invite, I would love to discuss
football. Also I a open to any questions about our team in
Sacramento. I.E. why we chose WAFL, or when are try outs , or
any thing you want to know as long as it is
productive to women's football and does not rag on club
members or any of the leagues. Thanks again and lets talk
football.

Hi boo. This is a public club and we are glad to
have you in it. One site you might want to check out

tryouts/combine web site. Really informative site-it goes over

Hi everyone, I've joined this club hoping to find
some women football players talking about football. If
this is a semi-private club and you'd like me to drop
my membership, no problem, just let me
know.

Anyway, tryouts are coming up !fast! and I've been
hitting the weight room. And I'm fighting nerves. I
usually don't get so riled up about things but the
thought of tryouts at the end of March gives me a case of
the butterflies.

First, thanks to everyone for joining the
club!
Yes, the club can be changed to unlisted from
listed, and without me having to delete the club and
start another. I thought, however, that i would try it
first as a listed club to get the membership built up.
As the club founder, i do have the ability to delete
offensive or off-topic messages as well as members whose
sole purpose of club membership is to cause trouble.
We will see how it goes and if the problems you
mentioned start happening in this club, i will change it to
an unlisted status. Feel free to e-mail me if you
disagree or have any ideas for improving the club. I'm
open to changing my mind, and welcome everyone's
input.
