Re: [Women's Football Club] Re: reality check

The Nashville Dream is in NWFA league. What position do you play?

ballplayer87 <edgecyc@...> wrote:Sorry it took so long to get back to
you....busy :) Eugene is in Oregon. We play Boise, ID, Tacoma, WA, Corvallis,
OR, Portland, OR and Redding, CA. It is a tough division and we have struggled
for many reasons. We are looking forward to a successful 2006 season and have
recruited some really promising talent. Which league is the Nashville Dream in?
We are IWFL.

Where is the Edge at? What league is that in. I am fairly new at all this. Last
season was my rookie year.

Of course women's football is obscure. How long did it take the NFL to become
the billion dollar sport that it is today? We are expecting this to take off
and become this national pasttime overnight. Look at the struggle women's
basketball has had to go through and their players play in college. We are
housewives, doctors, clerks, waitresses, everything but recognizable athletes!
We are the jumping off point for women's football and zdaisy is right, if we
don't start working together this will die off as just another fad. The
stronger league will prevail and eventually the teams and players from the other
leagues will blend in. Which is the strongest league....? That will be the one
that can get management, owners and players all to buy in to the same program.
That will take a group of people that truly want women's football to grow and
succeed, not a group of people who have figured out how to get money out of
people. Does it cost money to run a football team, of course,
and until ticket sales and sponsorships get to a level where owners don't have
to declare bankruptcy at the end of a season from the cost of running a team,
the players are going to have to pay to play. Women's football has a chance to
become something great but it is going to take a great deal of patience and
work. Hang in there ladies, there is a lot of bickering on this board but there
is also a lot of passion for this sport!

What are you comparing it to? The NFL? Or to minor league MEN's
football? Because I can tell you, the women's game is at least on a
par with the men there, probably considerably better, in terms
of "sell". Men's teams fold up, change schedules without warning --
unless you're on the team, good luck trying to follow many of them.

You never know what will put the product before the people. In the
late 1970s the Chicago Lions (Northern States Football League, not
the rugby club) got considerable publicity & draw because a certain
local TV newscaster (the weather reporter IIRC) was a 2nd string
running back for them. Hey, it got them some play on channel 7.
